Officer Miller signaled for his partner to step inside the front hallway to control the situation.
Officer Miller: Sir, we have a warrant to review all financial records related to this property.
Julian: You cannot search this house without my explicit written permission as the primary executor!
Marcus: You are not the executor yet, Julian. Dad named me as the primary executor years ago.
Marcus reached into his blue jacket and pulled out a stamped legal document with official seals.
Marcus: Here is the original will registered with the county court, signed by Dad before he passed.
Julian glared at his brother with pure hatred burning deep inside his narrowed eyes.
Julian: That old document was superseded by the updated agreement Dad signed right before dying!
Marcus: You mean the agreement you fabricated while Dad was unconscious in the intensive care unit?
Evelyn covered her mouth with both hands, fresh tears rolling down her delicate skin.
Evelyn: Oh, Julian... please tell me you did not do that to your own father...
Julian: He was out of his mind, Mom! He did not know what he was doing anyway!
Officer Miller: That is a direct confession of document tampering, sir. Place your hands behind your back.
Julian: Wait! I did not confess to anything illegal! I was speaking hypothetically about the estate!
Officer Miller: Step outside right now before I add resisting arrest to your charges today.
The officer firmly guided Julian toward the front porch, away from the crying mother in the chair.
Marcus turned his full attention back to Evelyn, gently wrapping his warm hands around her fingers.
Marcus: Here is the receipt from the county treasurer showing a zero balance on your home.
Evelyn: You paid off the entire mortgage balance too? How could you afford all of this?
Marcus: I took out a loan against my own house because protecting you is all that matters.
Evelyn: You saved me, son. Everything is yours now... everything your father left behind.
Marcus: I don't want the house or the money, Mom. I just want you to be safe.
The emotional weight of the moment washed over the room as Evelyn smiled through her tears.
She reached down and picked up the original family papers resting quietly on her lap.
Evelyn: Your father always knew you had a good heart, Marcus. He was always proud of you.
Marcus: I learned how to care for family by watching how you cared for Dad every day.
Outside on the porch, Julian was being questioned by the secondary police officer about his actions.
His angry voice faded into the background as peace finally returned to the sunlit living room.
