Sarah: I cannot believe this day is finally here, Claire.
Claire: You look absolutely breathtaking in that lace gown, Sarah.
Sarah turned toward the large mirror on the wall of her suburban living room. Her heart beat rapidly with joy.
Sarah: I have waited five years to marry Mark. Everything feels like a dream.
Claire: You deserve all the happiness in the world, my dear friend.
Claire adjusted the white veil pinned gently into Sarah's hair. Her touch was soft, but her eyes remained remarkably cold.
Sarah: Is Mark already waiting downstairs with his groomsmen?
Claire: He is right outside in the hallway, looking very handsome in his grey suit.
Sarah smiled brightly, holding her bridal bouquet tightly against her chest. She had known Claire since their high school freshman year.
Sarah: I am so glad you agreed to be my maid of honor.
Claire: I would not miss this moment for anything in the world, Sarah.
Claire turned away toward the small side table near the kitchen entrance. A glass of fresh orange juice sat quietly on the tray.
Sarah: My hands are shaking a little bit. I am just so nervous.
Claire: Take a deep breath. You need to stay calm before walking down the aisle.
Claire reached into her small clutch purse and pulled out a tiny glass bottle containing clear liquid poison.
Claire: You should drink some juice to settle your stomach right now.
She poured three small drops into the glass of orange juice. The clear liquid dissolved instantly without leaving any visible trace.
Sarah: Is it time to go to the church already?
Claire: Almost, but you need to drink this first, Sarah.
Claire walked back across the room, holding the glass out with a calm, warm smile that appeared completely genuine.
Claire: Here's a drink before the ceremony starts.
Sarah: You are always taking such good care of me, Claire.
Sarah took the glass and raised it to her lips without hesitating for even a single second.
Sarah: It tastes a little bit bitter today.
Claire: It is just fresh pulp, Sarah. Drink the rest of it down.
Sarah took another swallow, but suddenly her eyes widened in complete horror as a sharp pain burned her chest.
Sarah: Claire... I cannot breathe. My throat feels like it is burning!
Claire: Just relax, Sarah. It will all be over in a few seconds.
The glass slipped from Sarah's fingers, crashing loudly onto the hardwood oak floor and spilling orange juice everywhere.
Sarah: Help me... please call an ambulance!
Claire: Nobody is coming to help you today, my sweet friend.
Sarah fell to her knees, gasping for air as her body grew heavy and completely paralyzed.
Sarah: Why... why are you doing this to me?
Claire: Because Mark was supposed to be mine from the very beginning.
Sarah collapsed onto her side, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling before closing completely into utter darkness.
Claire: Sleep tight, Sarah. I have a wedding to attend.
Claire stepped carefully around the puddle of juice and walked out into the corridor toward Mark, leaving Sarah completely motionless.
