Thomas sat at the wooden dining room table, carefully examining the silver folder Mark had left behind.
Evelyn brought him a warm mug of coffee, setting it down gently on a cork coaster.
Thomas: Mark is using an outdated copy of the land title from ten years ago.
Evelyn: What do you mean, Thomas? Does he actually have the legal power to evict me?
Thomas: Absolutely not. Your husband Arthur set up a revocable family trust before he passed away.
Thomas reached into his leather briefcase and pulled out a thick document bound in blue covers.
Thomas: Arthur knew Mark was easily influenced by money and status, even back when he was young.
Evelyn: Arthur never told me the full details of the final estate arrangements.
Thomas: He wanted to protect you. Under this trust, you hold one hundred percent lifetime control.
Thomas opened the document to a stamped notary page signed with Arthur's distinct cursive signature.
Thomas: Furthermore, Arthur added a specific clause regarding filial duty and inheritance rights.
Evelyn: A filial duty clause? I don't understand legal terms like that, Thomas.
Thomas: If any beneficiary attempts to forcibly evict you or sue you for the property...
Thomas paused, pointing his finger at a paragraph marked with bold red ink along the margin.
Thomas: ...their entire share of the estate is immediately forfeited and redirected to a charitable foundation.
Evelyn gasped, touching her lips with her fingers as the gravity of the revelation sank in.
Evelyn: Arthur wrote that into his last will and testament?
Thomas: He wanted to make sure you were never left helpless at the mercy of anyone.
Evelyn: Mark thinks he can drag me into a public courtroom and embarrass me into signing.
Thomas: Let him try. He has no idea he is walking straight into a legal trap.
Evelyn: I don't want to hurt my son, Thomas. He is still my child.
Thomas: He isn't acting like your son, Evelyn. He is acting like a predator targeting your home.
Evelyn looked out the window toward the garden her husband had planted decades ago.
She remembered all the late nights she spent working while Mark slept peacefully in his room upstairs.
She had given him everything, and he had responded by throwing a plate of food in her face.
Evelyn: If he wants to take this to court, Thomas... I will not bow down to him.
Thomas: Good. I will file an immediate injunction against his partition claim tomorrow morning.
