The Cruel Demands At Home

My Husband Demanded Total Control Until My Father Arrived

Sarah wiped the cold moisture from her face as she stood shivering on the patio deck.

Her husband Mark stared at her with cold eyes while holding the garden hose.

His mother Evelyn stood beside him with a smug expression on her face.

Sarah took a slow step backward on the oak wooden boards.

Her heart pounded wildly inside her chest as anger washed over her body.

She looked down at her pregnant belly and wrapped her arms protectively around herself.

Mark: Are you finally ready to listen to my mother now?

Sarah: You are acting completely out of your mind right now, Mark.

Evelyn: Watch your tone when you speak to my son, Sarah.

Sarah raised her chin higher and looked directly into Evelyn's cold gray eyes.

She had tolerated her mother-in-law's constant insults for over three long years.

Every family dinner had turned into a lecture about status and social class.

Mark had always taken his mother's side instead of supporting his own wife.

Sarah: I have been a loyal wife to you since the day we married.

Mark: A loyal wife respects the head of the household without arguing back.

Sarah: Marriage is supposed to be an equal partnership between two loving people.

Evelyn: You came from nothing, so you should be grateful for this life.

Sarah felt a burning rage replace the initial shock inside her mind.

Her father had worked hard as a respected small business owner for forty years.

She was not a helpless victim, and she refused to act like one today.

Sarah: My family has more honor than both of you combined.

Mark: Do not speak about my mother like that in our home!

Sarah: This is my home too, Mark, my name is on the deed!

Mark pointed his finger aggressively toward the open driveway near the lawn.

Mark: Get out of my sight before I lose my temper completely!

Evelyn: Let her walk away, son, she has nowhere else to go anyway.

Sarah turned around and walked briskly toward her car parked in the driveway.

She opened the driver's side door and grabbed her leather purse quickly.

Her hands shook slightly as she pulled out her smartphone from the pocket.

She dialed her father's phone number without hesitating for a single second.

Robert: Hello sweetheart, is everything going okay with the baby preparation today?

Sarah: Dad, I need you to come over to the house right now.

Robert: Sarah, what happened, why does your voice sound so shaken up?

Sarah: Mark and his mother just threw me out onto the patio.

The line went completely silent for three terrifying seconds on the phone.

Robert: I am pulling out of my driveway immediately, stay safe until I arrive.

Sarah sat inside her locked car while waiting for her father to show up.

Mark and Evelyn walked back inside the luxury house, shutting the heavy door.

She took deep breaths to calm her baby and clear her frantic thoughts.

The afternoon sun beat down brightly across the suburban neighborhood street.

Ten minutes later, a heavy black pickup truck pulled up to the curb.
