Officer Hayes: Mr. Vance, we need you to step back from the puddle so the forensics team can collect samples properly.
Mark: Just tell me what was in that glass, Officer. Was my daughter right?
Officer Hayes: We can't confirm anything until the lab runs a full chemical analysis on the liquid residue. But we are securing the scene as a potential crime scene.
Lily: Daddy, my heart is beating so fast. Is she coming back?
Mark: No, baby. She's sitting in the back of that police cruiser outside, and she isn't coming back into this house ever again.
Officer Hayes: Ma'am, stay where you are near the vehicle. Ma'am!
Evelyn: This is a massive misunderstanding! Call my lawyer, Arthur Pendelton! I have rights!
Mark: Save it for the court, Evelyn. You tried to poison me in my own kitchen while my child was watching.
Evelyn: You have no proof! A child's word isn't going to hold up in court, Mark! You're ruining your own reputation!
Mark: My family business built this life, and I will tear it all down to keep my daughter safe from a monster like you.
Officer Hayes: Ma'am, place your hands behind your back. You're being detained pending investigation.
Evelyn: You'll regret this! Both of you!
Mark watched as the police car pulled away down the tree-lined driveway, its red and blue lights flashing against the manicured lawns of the wealthy neighborhood. He knelt back down beside Lily, taking her small hands in his, noticing how cold they felt despite the warm Texas air.
Mark: How did you see her, Lily? Tell me exactly what happened before I walked in.
Lily: I was going to get my coloring book from the dining room... and I saw her standing by the sink. She didn't see me.
Mark: What did she hold in her hand?
Lily: A little brown bottle. She poured green juice into your glass, and then she dropped drops from the bottle into it.
Mark: Drops? What kind of drops?
Lily: She whispered something, Daddy. She said, 'Soon it will all be mine.'
Mark: Oh God...
Lily: And then I ran as fast as I could and hit the glass out of her hand when she tried to hide it!
Mark: You saved my life, sweetie. You saved my life today.
Lily: But Daddy... what did she mean by 'all mine'?
Mark: I don't know, Lily. But tomorrow morning, I'm going to my lawyer's office to find out exactly what she was trying to take from us.
The doorbell rang suddenly, making both of them jump. Mark stepped carefully around the marked-off kitchen zone and opened the door to find his long-time estate lawyer, Richard Vance, standing on the porch with a thick leather briefcase.
Richard: Mark, I got your call on the emergency line. Is it true? Did the police really arrest Evelyn?
Mark: She tried to give me liquid poison, Richard. Lily caught her in the act.
Richard: We have a massive problem, Mark. A very urgent problem.
Mark: What problem? She's in jail.
Richard: I was reviewing your updated life insurance policy and estate will yesterday afternoon... and someone requested an emergency change of beneficiaries three days ago.
Mark: What? I never signed any changes!
Richard: That's why I'm here, Mark. The signature on the file... it looks identical to yours.
