Vanessa slowly walked down the marble steps, her red silk gown trailing behind her. As soon as she reached the bottom, Officer Davis grabbed her hands and snapped heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
Vanessa: Brandon, tell them to stop! You can't let them do this to me!
Brandon: Officer, she also stole over two hundred thousand dollars from my mother's account. The bank audit papers are right there on the floor.
Officer Miller: We'll collect all documents as evidence, sir. Has she taken anything else from the property?
Brandon: The ring in my hand was ripped off my mother's finger during the assault.
Officer Davis: Understood. Vanessa Reed, you are under arrest for grand larceny, elder abuse, and attempted murder.
Vanessa: Attempted murder?! Are you insane?! I didn't try to kill anybody!
Officer Davis: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Vanessa: Brandon! Look at me! I did everything for us! For our family!
Brandon: Don't ever say the word family again. You meant nothing to us.
The paramedics carefully lifted Margaret onto a stretcher, securing a neck brace around her head as they monitored her heart rate.
Paramedic: Her vitals are stabilizing, sir, but she needs emergency CT scans immediately. We're taking her to Dallas General.
Brandon: I'm coming with you. Lily, get your coat, baby.
Lily: Is Grandma going to be okay, Daddy?
Brandon: Grandma is strong, sweetie. She's going to make it through this.
As the officers led a weeping, screaming Vanessa out the front doors into the flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers, Brandon picked up his daughter and held her tight against his chest.
Lily: I was scared, Daddy. She was so mean to Grandma.
Brandon: You were so brave tonight, Lily. You saved Grandma's life by telling the truth.
Lily: Will that lady ever come back here?
Brandon: No, sweetie. She is never setting foot in this house again.
