The morning sun poured through the massive crystal windows of the Dallas mansion.
Victoria adjusted her dark wine dress and checked her reflection in the hall mirror.
She took pride in maintaining total control over every single staff member in the house.
Every flower arrangement had to be perfectly straight and every floor had to shine.
Her heels clicked loudly against the white marble floor as she walked down the hall.
She noticed a young woman standing near a large framed artwork on the wall.
The young woman was carefully dusting the frame with a soft white cloth.
Her name was Maya, and she had only started working there three days ago.
Maya was quiet and worked hard without ever complaining about her long hours.
She wore a simple gray uniform that looked clean and neat on her small frame.
Victoria stopped right behind the young girl and folded her arms across her chest.
She looked down her nose at the delicate glass frame Maya was trying to clean.
Victoria: You are smudging the glass with that cheap dusty rag girl.
Maya: I am sorry ma'am, I am using a special polished cloth for glass.
Victoria: Are you talking back to me in my own house right now?
Maya: No ma'am, I was just explaining how I clean the delicate frames.
Victoria felt her temper flare up at the young girl's calm tone of voice.
She reached out and snatched the cleaning cloth straight out of Maya's small hands.
The bucket of soapy water sat on the polished floor right beside Maya's feet.
Victoria: Know your place in this house before I fire you today!
Maya: Please do not fire me, I really need this job to pay my rent.
Victoria: Then learn to keep your mouth shut when your superior is speaking!
Maya stepped back nervously and bumped against the edge of her metal cleaning bucket.
The heavy bucket tipped over and spilled soapy water across the white marble floor.
Victoria gasped in anger as water splashed across the tips of her designer shoes.
She grabbed Maya's shoulder firmly and pulled her away from the growing wet puddle.
Maya lost her balance on the slick stone and sat down hard on the ground.
She looked up at the older woman with wide eyes filled with fear and shock.
Victoria: Look at the terrible mess you just made on my imported floor!
Maya: It was an accident, I will clean it up right away ma'am!
Victoria: You are completely clumsy and completely unfit to work in this mansion!
Maya tried to stand up, but her hands slipped against the soapy stone surface.
Tears started to build up in her eyes as Victoria raised her loud voice.
The sound of heavy leather shoes echoed from the far end of the hallway.
Arthur stepped into the grand corridor holding his black leather briefcase in his hand.
He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the scene unfolding before him.
His face turned pale as his gaze locked onto the young weeping girl on the floor.
He dropped his expensive briefcase onto the ground without giving it a second thought.
Arthur: Why is my daughter on the floor right now, Victoria?
Victoria: What did you just call this foolish clumsy maid, Arthur?
Arthur: Get away from her this instant before I lose my temper entirely!
Arthur rushed down the long corridor toward the two women with fast heavy strides.
Victoria stared at her husband in complete confusion as he dropped to his knees.
He placed his warm arms around Maya's shaking shoulders to shield her body completely.
