Damon: You were pregnant when you left?
Clara: I found out two weeks after I reached Oklahoma. I had no money, no job references, and your mother’s lawyers threatened me with jail if I ever contacted you.
Damon: That's why you were living like this? Because my mother threatened you?
Clara: I didn't care about the money, Damon! I just wanted to protect Lily! They said they would take her away at birth and put her into state custody!
Damon: They lied to you. They had no legal power to do that.
Lily: Mommy, why are you crying? Is the man mad at us?
Damon: I'm not mad at you, Lily. I'm never going to be mad at you.
Damon pulled out his phone, his hands trembling with anger as he dialed his chief legal officer.
Damon: Marcus. I need you at my house immediately. Revoke my mother's power of attorney over all family trust funds.
Marcus: Boss? Are you sure? That involves the entire estate holdings.
Damon: Do it now! Freeze every account tied to her name until further notice!
Clara: Damon, please... don't cause a war with your family because of us.
Damon: The war started seven years ago, Clara. They just didn't tell me I was in it.
Clara: We don't want your money. We just need a safe place for a few nights until I can find work at a diner.
Damon: You are not going back to a shelter, and you are not working in a diner. Look at her, Clara. Look at Lily.
Clara: She has your eyes, doesn't she?
Damon: She has my entire heart. Get in the car.
