Two security guards stepped into the room, respectfully placing themselves between Evelyn and Damon.
Evelyn: You're ruining this family, Damon! You're making a huge mistake!
Damon: The mistake was trusting you seven years ago. Goodbye, Mother.
Evelyn was led away, her furious shouts echoing down the hallway until the heavy oak front doors slammed shut.
The study became quiet again, save for the soft tick of the antique clock on the wall.
Clara sat quietly, tears streaming down her cheeks as she looked up at Damon.
Clara: I never wanted to destroy your family, Damon...
Damon: You didn't destroy anything, Clara. You protected my daughter when I wasn't there to do it myself.
Clara: What happens now?
Damon: Now, we rebuild. You and Lily are moving into the main wing of the estate. You will never have to worry about rent, food, or safety ever again.
A soft knock came at the door, and little Lily peeked her head inside, wearing clean pajamas and holding a toy bear the staff had given her.
Lily: Mommy? Look! They gave me a bear! And my tummy is super full!
Damon smiled, walking over and lifting his daughter up into his arms for the very first time.
Damon: Are you happy here, Lily?
Lily: Yes! Can we stay here forever?
Damon: Yes, sweetheart. Forever.
