Two building security guards entered the boardroom quietly, standing by the double doors with their hands crossed in front of them.
Richard stared at the guards, then back at Sarah, his voice cracking with a mixture of rage and defeat.
Richard: You planned this. You played the quiet, submissive wife while you set a trap for me.
Sarah: I didn't set any trap, Richard. I simply remembered what my father taught me about business ethics.
Arthur: You dug your own grave the moment you used company accounts to fund private luxury lifestyles for your mistress.
Chloe: I was an employee! I was performing official duties!
Marcus: Miss Davis, our forensic auditors already found two hundred thousand dollars in luxury boutique charges billed directly as corporate marketing expenses.
Chloe: Richard told me those were authorized gifts!
Marcus: Then you two can work out the repayment terms between yourselves during the civil litigation phase.
Chloe turned on her high heels without saying another word, practically sprinting out of the boardroom and down the corridor toward the elevators.
Richard didn't even look after her. His gaze remained locked on his wife, searching for any sign of mercy in her calm expression.
Richard: Sarah... we built a life together. You can't just erase twenty years over one mistake.
Sarah: It wasn't one mistake, Richard. It was hundreds of deliberate choices to disrespect, deceive, and humiliate me.
Richard: What am I supposed to do now? Where am I supposed to go?
Sarah: The suburban condo is waiting for you in Queens. The keys are at the front desk of your attorney's office.
Richard: That place is a dump compared to the penthouse!
Sarah: Then you better start looking for a job to pay for an upgrade.
Arthur: Gentlemen, please escort Mr. Vance off the corporate property immediately.
The two security guards stepped forward, placing a firm, respectful hand on Richard’s arm.
Security Officer: Step this way, Mr. Vance. Let's keep this professional.
Richard hesitated for a second, his shoulders slumping under his tailored suit, before walking slowly toward the door without uttering another word.
The door clicked shut behind him, leaving a peaceful, productive quiet in the room that had been missing for over a decade.
Arthur: Well, Madam Chairwoman, the board is waiting for your opening remarks.
Sarah took a slow breath, smoothed her simple jacket, and leaned forward over the head of the conference table.
Sarah: Thank you, everyone. Let's begin by cancelling all pending executive vanity projects and redirecting those funds back to the operational fleet.
Marcus: Consider it done, Sarah.
Sarah: From this day forward, Vance Maritime will be run with honesty, transparency, and respect for every person who keeps our ships sailing.
The entire board of directors nodded in unanimous agreement as Sarah opened the agenda folder, finally in full control of her father's legacy and her own future.
