Taking Back Control Now

The Brass Holder Left On The Couch

Ethan: I am telling my grandfather about this right now!

Maya: Go ahead and call him in here then.

Ethan struggled to his feet, holding onto the armrest of the sofa to balance himself. His face was flushed with anger and embarrassment.

Ethan: He will fire you on the spot for this behavior!

Maya: You cannot fire someone who has already decided to quit.

She placed the brass candlestick carefully onto the side table, aligning it neatly with the edge. Her posture was straight, and her eyes remained steady and fearless.

Ethan: You can't just walk away from this job!

Maya: Watch me walk away from it right now.

Ethan: You need the money for your family's bills!

Maya: I will find another job where people treat me with respect.

Maya walked calmly toward the corner where her apron and personal bag were hanging. She untied the white cloth apron and folded it neatly over the back of a dining chair.

Ethan: My grandfather will make sure you never work in this town again!

Maya: He has no power over me outside of this house.

Ethan took a step toward her, but stopped immediately when Maya looked directly into his eyes without flinching. The intimidation tactics that had worked for months were completely useless now.

Maya: Stay right where you are, Ethan.

Ethan: You think you are so clever, don't you?

Maya: No, I am just taking back my dignity today.

She picked up her leather purse from the table and pulled her coat over her shoulders. The air inside the living room felt lighter already as she made her decision final.

Ethan: You are making a massive mistake leaving like this!

Maya: This is the best decision I have ever made.

She turned her back on him and walked toward the grand front entrance of the home.
