Selena struggled on the manicured lawn, her white bridal gown stained with mud and dirt as security dragged her past the stunned guests.
Guest 1: How disgusting! Kicking out a motherless child?
Guest 2: Security, keep her away from us! What a horrific woman!
The guests began turning their backs on Selena, whispering fiercely among themselves as her social status crumbled in seconds.
Julian: You wanted fame and money, Selena. Now everyone in New York knows exactly who you really are.
Selena: You ruined my life!
Julian: No, you ruined your own life the second you targeted my innocent little girl.
The gates slammed shut behind Selena as she was unceremoniously dumped on the pavement outside the estate walls, surrounded by news reporters who had been tipped off.
Julian turned back toward the mansion, walking inside and closing the heavy oak doors, leaving the noise of the world behind.
He walked straight into the study, where Lily was sitting on the sofa, holding her late mother’s quilt tightly in her lap.
Julian: Hey, sweetie. It’s over. She’s gone forever.
Lily: Are we going to stay here together, Daddy?
Julian: Always. Just you and me, kiddo. Nobody will ever come between us again.
Eleanor walked over, wrapping her arms around both of them as tears of relief filled the room.
Eleanor: You did the right thing, son. A real father protects his child no matter what the world thinks.
Julian: She was the worst mistake of my life, but protecting Lily was my greatest victory.
Lily looked up at her father, a small, genuine smile returning to her face as she wrapped her tiny arms around his neck.
