Behind the Locked Door

The Bride Locked Her Sister Away Before the Grand Wedding

Mark: Give me those keys right now, Chloe!

Mark stepped in front of Lily and held out his right hand.

His jaw was tight, and his knuckles turned white as he clenched his fist.

Chloe: You are blowing this completely out of proportion!

Chloe took a quick step back toward the edge of the swimming pool.

She laughed loudly, but her voice sounded thin and fake.

Chloe: Sarah is not in that dusty old storage shed!

She adjusted the heavy lace sleeve of her wedding dress with trembling fingers.

Chloe: My sister packed her bags and left for Florida early this morning.

Lily: She is lying, Mark!

Lily wiped her wet cheeks with the back of her dirty sleeve.

Lily: I heard Mommy crying behind the big wooden door!

Chloe: The child is confused because of all the wedding stress!

Chloe waved her hands dismissively as several catering staff members turned to look.

Chloe: She is just throwing a temper tantrum to get attention!

Mark: hand over the keys, or I break that door down myself.

Mark did not wait for her response.

He walked straight past Chloe toward the small structure at the far end of the property.

Chloe: Mark, stop right there!

Chloe ran after him, her long bridal train dragging across the light marble tiles.

Chloe: You are going to ruin our expensive photos!

Mark reached the heavy wooden door of the storage shed.

A thick brass padlock held the rusty latch tightly in place.

Sarah: Is someone out there?

A faint voice echoed from behind the solid wood paneling.

Sarah: Please help me, I cannot open the door!

Lily: Mommy!

Lily ran up behind Mark and beat her small fists against the wood.

Lily: Mark is here to get you out!

Mark: Stand back, Lily.

Mark searched the nearby garden bed and spotted a heavy iron landscaping tool.

Chloe: Do not touch that building!

Chloe grabbed Mark's arm in a desperate attempt to pull him back.

Chloe: This mansion belongs to my family, and you have no right!

Mark shook her hand off his elbow with absolute disgust.

Mark: Get away from me, Chloe.

He jammed the flat iron bar straight into the space beside the brass lock.

He leaned all his weight against the tool until the old wood groaned under the pressure.

With a loud splintering sound, the wooden frame snapped completely open.

The shed door swung wide into the bright Texas sunlight.

Sarah stumbled out into the open air, gasping for breath.

Her beige dress was stained with dust, and her dark hair was tangled.

Lily: Mommy, you are safe!

Lily threw her arms around Sarah's waist and sobbed against her hip.

Sarah fell to her knees on the marble floor and held her daughter close.

Sarah: I thought no one would hear me in there!

Mark crouched down beside them and checked Sarah's hands for injuries.

Mark: What happened to you, Sarah?

Sarah pointed a trembling hand directly at her sister.

Sarah: Chloe lured me into the shed two hours ago under the pretense of showing me floral decorations.

Chloe: That is an absolute lie, and you know it!

Chloe backed up against the pool railing, her face pale as chalk.

Sarah: She locked the door behind me so I could not sign the trust fund documents today.

Several wedding guests stepped out onto the mansion patio and gasped in shock.

Sarah: She wanted to force Mark into marriage before anyone realized I was still the legal sole heir to the estate.

Mark: You trapped your own sister in a dark shed for a settlement?

Chloe: She was going to ruin everything I worked for!

Chloe screamed at the growing crowd of wealthy guests staring at her.

Chloe: That inheritance money was supposed to be mine from the very beginning!

Mark: The wedding is over, Chloe.

Mark stood up and positioned himself directly between Chloe and Sarah's family.

Chloe: You cannot cancel the wedding now!

Chloe reached out to grab Mark's lapel, her eyes filled with rage.

Chloe: I spent months planning this day, and you will not destroy my future!
