The heavy oak doors of the grand estate swung open, casting a cold shadow over the pristine marble porch. Margarethe stepped out, her emerald silk dress whispering softly against the tiled floor as she scanned the courtyard. Her sharp gaze immediately landed on a small, fragile figure huddled near the iron gate.
Margarethe: What are you doing near my property? Get away from here!
The young girl flinched, clutching her ragged coat tightly around her trembling frame.
Child: Please, ma'am, I was just looking for a warm place to sit...
Margarethe: Don't lie to me! You came here to steal from my estate!
With a furious stride, Margarethe grabbed the girl by her arm and forcefully pushed her back onto the cold stone floor. The child tumbled hard, her hands scraping against the rough pavement. As she hit the ground, a small metal object slipped from her pocket and clattered across the floor, coming to a rest right at Margarethe's polished shoes. The glint of gold trapped the woman's eye, making her freeze mid-sentence.
Margarethe: What is this? Where did you get this?
Child: That's mine! My mom gave it to me!
Margarethe picked up the gold locket with the shining blue stone, her hands suddenly shaking as a wave of painful memories washed over her.
Margarethe: This locket vanished twenty years ago with my missing daughter. Tell me who your mother is right now, or I'm calling the police!
The frightened child looked up, her eyes wide with tears, unaware that the name she was about to speak would break open a decades-old secret that was never meant to be uncovered.
