The polished white marble of the Dallas mansion always gleamed under the Texas sun, but today it felt like ice beneath Sarah’s feet.
Victoria: How many times do I have to tell you to clean this mirror properly?
Sarah: I tried, ma'am. I wiped it down twice, but the stain is inside the frame.
Victoria: Don't talk back to me! You're nothing but a hired maid in this house!
Victoria’s face twisted in rage as she shoved Sarah backward toward the heavy entryway mirror.
Sarah: Please, stop! I'm pregnant!
The heavy glass shattered with a deafening crack, spraying sharp shards across the pristine floor.
Julian: What the hell is going on here?!
Julian rushed through the grand entryway, his eyes wide with horror as he grabbed Victoria’s wrist.
Victoria: Julian, let go of me! She's incompetent!
Julian: Get away from her, Victoria! Right now!
Sarah: Please... no more...
Tears blurred Sarah’s vision as she sat trembling among the broken glass, her hand instinctively reaching inside her apron pocket.
Julian: Sarah, don't move. Are you bleeding?
Sarah: Take it... just look at it...
Her shaky, freckled fingers pulled out a folded piece of paper, worn at the edges and smudged with age.
Julian: What is this?
Julian knelt beside her, his tattooed hands unfolding the paper to reveal a child's crayon drawing of a dark-haired man and a blonde woman standing together.
Victoria: Why are you looking at her trash, Julian? Throw it away!
Julian: Shut up, Victoria!
Julian’s hands froze, his eyes widening in complete shock as he stared at the initials drawn in the corner.
Sarah: You remember it, don't you?
Julian: I'm done hiding! 🇺🇸
