The Secret Behind the Wall

The Hidden Child Behind the Mansion Wall Painting

Victoria: Put that phone down this instant, you stupid girl!

Elena: Don't you dare come any closer to me!

Victoria lunged forward, her diamond rings catching the daylight as she tried to snatch the recording phone from Elena's grip.

Elena: Get off me! I am recording everything!

Elena ducked under Victoria's arm, shoving her back gently while shielding the weeping boy with her own body.

Victoria: You have no idea what you're interfering with! That child doesn't exist on paper!

Elena: He is a human being! Look at his wrists, Victoria! Look at the tape marks!

Victoria: My husband's lawyers will destroy you before you ever reach the front gate!

Elena: Let them try. I'm peeling this tape off him right now.

Elena dropped to her knees, carefully lifting the boy out of the narrow wall cavity into her arms.

Toddler: Cold... cold...

Elena: I know, sweet boy. I've got you. You're safe with me now.

Victoria took a quick sip of her champagne, her hand visibly shaking despite her aggressive stance.

Victoria: He was supposed to stay quiet until the inspectors left the premises.

Elena: Building inspectors? Child services? Who were you hiding him from?

Victoria: The trust fund auditors! If they find out Richard had an illegitimate heir before signing the estate papers, we lose forty million dollars!

Elena: You locked a baby in a wall for money?

Victoria: It was only supposed to be for an hour!

Elena: He could have suffocated in there! The air hole is barely two inches wide!

Victoria: Name your price, Elena. Five thousand dollars? Ten thousand? Just hand him to me and delete the video.

Elena: Money won't buy my silence for this kind of evil.

Victoria: Everyone has a price. You're a maid living in a rundown apartment downtown. Don't play the hero when you can barely pay your electricity bill.

Elena: I may be poor, but I am not a monster.

Elena held the toddler close to her chest, feeling his rapid heartbeat against her ribs.

Victoria: Last chance, Elena. Give me the boy or I call the police and tell them you broke into my home and tried to kidnap him.

Elena: Go ahead. Call them. Let's see who they believe when they look at this recording.

Victoria's face turned pale as the front door downstairs creaked open, followed by heavy footsteps on the main staircase.
