The sunny afternoon grew noticeably tense after the bitter argument.
Mia sat quietly on the porch swing clutching her mother's hand.
Elena looked across the patio at her younger sister Sarah.
Sarah was busy shuffling through the papers on the table.
Her hands moved quickly as if trying to hide something important.
Elena: What are those documents you keep staring at, Sarah?
Sarah: They are just private financial records from the estate sale.
Elena: Grandma's estate sale was settled over three months ago.
Sarah: Well, there are still some final legal details to finalize.
Elena noticed a folded blue folder resting under Sarah's purse.
The blue folder had the official stamp of a city law firm.
Elena: Is that the original probate court document from June?
Sarah: Mind your own business and leave my personal files alone!
Sarah quickly grabbed the blue folder and shoved it away.
She pulled her purse zipper tight with a sharp tug.
Mia: Mom, I saw Aunt Sarah in Grandma's bedroom yesterday.
Elena: What was she doing in there, sweetie?
Mia: She was opening the bottom drawer of the wooden desk.
Sarah snapped her head toward the porch swing in outrage.
Sarah: Tell your daughter to stop telling tall tales, Elena!
Elena: Mia only speaks the truth when she is asked directly.
Robert: Wait a minute, that desk was supposed to be locked.
Uncle Robert stepped closer to the white patio furniture.
Robert: Clara kept her original trust fund papers inside that desk.
Sarah: The lawyer said there was no trust fund left behind!
Elena: That is not what Grandma told me before she passed.
Sarah: Grandma was confused during her final days in the hospital!
Elena: Her mind was perfectly sharp until her very last breath.
Elena stood up slowly from the porch swing with determination.
She walked directly over to where Sarah was sitting rigid.
Elena: Show us what is inside that blue folder right now.
Sarah: You have no legal right to look through my private bag!
Elena: If it concerns our family estate, we all have a right.
Robert: Show us the paper, Sarah, or I will call the attorney.
Sarah clenched her jaw tightly while backing away from the table.
Sarah: You are all turning against me over a simple mistake!
Elena: It was not a simple mistake to accuse my daughter.
Elena: You tried to start a fight to distract us from those papers.
Sarah's chest rose and fell rapidly as her posture stiffened.
She grabbed her car keys off the wooden table tightly.
Sarah: I am leaving this place right now before this gets worse.
Elena: You are not going anywhere until you explain everything.
Elena put her arm out gently to block the porch exit.
Sarah: Move out of my way, Elena, before I push past!
Elena: I am standing right here until we get real answers.
Mia watched nervously from the safety of the porch swing.
The air felt heavy despite the bright sunshine overhead.
Uncle Robert reached down and picked up an envelope Sarah dropped.
The envelope was unsealed and showed official court lettering.
Robert: This paper says the house was deeded to Elena in full.
Sarah froze instantly on the wooden steps of the porch.
Her plan was beginning to unravel right before her eyes.
