The Unsealed Letter

The Hidden Truth About The Lost Will At The Barbecue

Uncle Robert held the white official envelope in his hands.

The sun reflected brightly off the crisp legal paper inside.

Elena stepped closer to read the clear dark print carefully.

Elena: Read that line out loud for everyone to hear, Robert.

Robert: The primary residence is bequeathed solely to Elena Vance.

Sarah lunged forward quickly to snatch the paper away fast.

Sarah: That is an old drafted copy that was never signed!

Uncle Robert held the document high above Sarah's reach easily.

Robert: There is a notary stamp right here at the bottom.

Elena: You knew about this deed the entire time, didn't you?

Sarah turned her face away as her voice grew high-pitched.

Sarah: I took care of Grandma while you were away working!

Elena: I was working two jobs to pay for her medicine!

Sarah: I deserved this property more than anyone else in this family!

Elena: You hid the real deed so you could sell the house.

Sarah: The real estate market is high, and I needed cash!

The relatives gathered around the porch gasped in utter shock.

Cousin David shook his head in complete disbelief at the news.

David: How could you do that to your own sister, Sarah?

Sarah: She does not even need this large suburban house anyway!

Elena: Mia and I have been renting a cramped apartment for years.

Elena: Grandma wanted us to have a safe home of our own.

Sarah: Grandma was persuaded by you to write that document!

Elena: Grandma was sharp and made her own choices until the end.

Mia walked over slowly and stood next to her mother proudly.

Mia: Grandma told me this house would be ours one day.

Sarah: Be quiet, you little brat, you don't know anything!

Elena: Do not speak to my daughter like that ever again!

Elena raised her hand firmly to stop Sarah's angry yelling.

Elena: You tried to frame Mia today to make us leave early.

Sarah: That was just an accident with my antique gold watch!

Elena: You staged that scene so you could search my bag safely.

Robert: Is that true, Sarah? Did you go into Elena's purse?

Sarah remained completely silent as her face turned pale white.

She looked around the yard at the stern faces watching her.

Sarah: I was looking for her signed probate waiver form!

Elena: I never signed any probate waiver form for you, Sarah.

Sarah: I had a draft ready for you to sign today!

Elena: You expected me to sign away my home without looking?

Sarah: It was for the good of the whole family business!

Elena: You only cared about filling your own bank account, Sarah.

The smell of burning barbecue meat drifted across the yard.

Nobody paid any attention to the smoking outdoor grill now.

Uncle Robert pulled out his mobile phone from his jacket pocket.

Robert: I am calling our family estate lawyer right this second.

Sarah: Put that phone away, Robert, do not call Mr. Davis!

Robert: Mr. Davis needs to know that the missing deed was found.

Sarah backed up toward her red sedan parked nearby quickly.

She realized that her carefully built scheme was completely destroyed.
