Daniel studied the photograph carefully. It showed Amelia standing beside a group of people at an old property.
Behind the photograph was a handwritten note.
Daniel: This handwriting looks familiar.
Amelia stepped closer.
Amelia: Daniel, please give me the papers.
Daniel: Why?
Amelia: Because they don't belong here.
The boy shook his head.
Boy: She told us nobody would ever find them.
The guests gasped.
Daniel looked directly at Amelia.
Daniel: What did you hide?
Amelia started crying.
Amelia: I was trying to protect myself.
Daniel: From what?
She could not answer.
Daniel continued reading the documents.
They described a property dispute and a financial agreement that had been kept secret from several members of the family.
Daniel: You knew about this before we planned the wedding.
Amelia: Yes.
Daniel: And you never told me?
Amelia looked down.
Amelia: I was afraid you would leave me.
Daniel shook his head.
Daniel: You should have trusted me with the truth.
The boy stood beside Daniel, still holding the empty envelope.
Boy: I just wanted you to know.
Daniel placed a hand on his shoulder.
Daniel: You did the right thing by telling me.
Amelia suddenly raised her voice.
Amelia: You don't know what you're doing!
Daniel looked at her with disbelief.
Daniel: I know enough to stop this wedding.
The room fell silent.
