The Falcon On The Gold

The Lost Son Who Stopped His Father's Billionaire Wedding

Julian reached out with trembling fingers, picking up the tarnished piece of jewelry from the child’s sweaty palm.

The metal felt icy cold despite the warm sun streaming through the high arched windows.

Julian: This is my family crest...

Vanessa: Julian, drop that dirty piece of trash and stand up right now!

Julian: This crest was custom forged by my grandfather in nineteen fifty-two.

Vanessa: Anyone could buy a fake replica at a flea market!

Julian: There are only three lockets like this on earth. One is in my bank vault. One was buried with my father.

Vanessa: And the third was melted in the car fire five years ago! He stole it from a pawn shop!

Boy: I didn't steal it! My mom put it around my neck inside the crushed station wagon!

Julian turned the locket over, using his thumbnail to pop the worn latch open.

Inside the tiny frame was a faded, water-damaged picture of his late wife Claire, smiling beside a tiny infant in a blue blanket.

Scratched into the inner gold casing was a handwritten message: My brave little Leo. Forever your Claire.

Julian: Claire's private handwriting... nobody ever saw this except her and me.

Boy: Mom told me to run into the woods when the strange man with the crowbar showed up. She told me to never let go of the falcon.

Vanessa: This is a coordinated shakedown! Call Dallas police! Call private security!

Julian: Shut your mouth, Vanessa!

Julian’s voice boomed across the vast venue like thunder, causing three elderly socialites in the front row to jump in their seats.

He stood up slowly, holding the boy securely behind his broad back like a fortress.

Julian: Five years ago, Thomas Henderson told me he identified my son’s dental remains in that burnt sedan.

Vanessa: Because he did! The official coroner signed the death certificate!

Boy: Mr. Henderson kept me in a barn outside Waco! He made me sleep on straw pallets and called me John!

Julian: How do you know Thomas Henderson’s name, kid?

Boy: Because she came to see him every month! She drove a red sports car and gave him envelopes of cash!

The boy pointed directly at Vanessa’s diamond-encrusted bracelet, his face red with tears.

Boy: She said if I ever told anyone my real name, she would pay men to put me deep in the lake!

Julian looked down at his bride, his jaw clenching so tight the veins in his temple bulged.

Vanessa: He is lying! Julian, you are losing your mind on our wedding day!

Julian: You stole my child!

Julian lunged forward with sudden, explosive fury and cracked his open palm across Vanessa's face.

The blow sent the blonde woman crashing hard onto the polished marble, her veil tearing completely away from her blonde hair.

She scrambled backward on her elbows, kicking her satin train as terror twisted her face.

Vanessa: Wait, please! Let me explain!

Julian: There is nothing to explain!

Julian grabbed her left arm with an iron grip, dragging her across the floor toward the entrance doors.

Julian: You are going straight to federal prison!
