Evelyn: What... what is the meaning of this? You can walk?
Julian: Hey! You were playing fake disabled this whole time? What kind of sick joke is this?
Man in Wheelchair: GET UP, YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNEEL ANYMORE!
Clara froze on the floor, looking up at the towering man in disbelief. Her hands stopped moving, the damp cloth slipping from her fingers onto the shiny floor.
Clara: Sir? But... your legs...
Arthur: My name is Arthur Pendelton. And nobody kneels in front of arrogant bullies while I am standing in this room.
Arthur extended his hand down toward Clara. His grip was firm and strong as he gently pulled her up to her feet, standing right between her and the stunned Vance family.
Evelyn: Arthur Pendelton? As in... Pendelton Global Logistics? The major defense contractor?
Arthur: The very same, Evelyn. The man whose charitable foundation funded this entire banquet tonight.
Julian: Wait, Mother... isn't that the billionaire investor we were trying to pitch our real estate expansion to?
Evelyn: Arthur... Mr. Pendelton! Please, forgive us! We had no idea you were... we thought you were just a helpless relative of the late founder!
Arthur: You thought I was weak. You thought I was helpless. And because of that, you showed me exactly who you are when you think no one of importance is watching.
Clara: Mr. Pendelton, I... I didn't know who you were. I was just trying to do my job so I wouldn't get fired.
Arthur: You don't need to explain anything to me, Clara. I saw how hard you worked all evening. I also saw how this woman treated you like dirt.
Evelyn: Now hold on a second! She is an employee of the hotel catering service! She dropped expensive wine on the floor right near my son’s shoes!
Julian: Exactly! She was clumsy. My mother was just enforcing basic standards for a high-class event!
Arthur: High-class? There is nothing classy about degrading another human being who is earning an honest living, Julian.
Evelyn: You don't understand the stress we are under! My family's company is merging with international partners tonight. We needed everything to be flawless!
Arthur: Your company's financial records are sitting right on my desk at my office Downtown. Or should I say, your mountain of unpaid bank debt is sitting on my desk.
Julian: What are you talking about? Our firm is worth millions!
Arthur: Your firm is on the brink of foreclosure, young man. And the only reason your bank hasn't seized your family estate yet is because they were waiting for my trust fund to approve your loan application.
Evelyn: Mr. Pendelton... please! We can step into a private room and discuss the business agreement! There's no need to make a scene in public!
Arthur: The scene was made the moment you forced this young woman onto her knees over a spilt drink. Everyone in this room saw it.
Clara: Sir, please... I don't want you to get into trouble because of me. I can just clean this up and go back to the kitchen.
Arthur: You are not going back to any kitchen, Clara. Tell me, how long have you worked for this catering crew?
Clara: Three years, sir. I work two jobs to pay for my daughter's heart medication and keep our apartment paid for.
Arthur: Three years of hard work, and this is how they treat you? Not anymore.
Evelyn: Mr. Pendelton, this is absurd! You are risking a multi-million dollar venture capital deal over a maid!
Arthur: I am risking nothing. I am making a decision based on character. And yours is utterly worthless.
Julian: You can't just back out of the contract! The paperwork is already drafted by our corporate attorneys!
Arthur: Drafted is not signed, Julian. And as of right now, that deal is dead.
