Police Officer: "Ma'am, step away from the table. Put your hands behind your back."
Patricia: "This is a misunderstanding! I didn't push anyone! It was an accident!"
David: "It wasn't an accident. I have full security footage of her lifting Maya over the railing and throwing her."
Police Officer: "Officer Miller, secure the footage immediately. Ma'am, you are under arrest for attempted murder and child endangerment."
Patricia: "You can't arrest me! Do you know who my family is? My lawyer will have your badge for this!"
Police Officer: "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
The officers handcuffed Patricia behind her back while the paramedics hurried toward the library where Elena was protecting little Maya. David guided the paramedics into the room, his heart pounding in his chest.
Paramedic: "Let's take a look at the little girl. How high was the fall?"
Elena: "It was from the upper mezzanine, at least twenty feet high. But I caught her completely before she hit the floor."
Paramedic: "Let me check her arms and legs. She's alert and crying, which is a very good sign. What about you, young lady? Are your arms okay?"
Elena: "My shoulders hurt a bit, but I'm fine."
Paramedic: "Catching a falling child from that height can cause serious strain or fractures. We need to check you both out at the hospital just to be safe."
David: "I'm coming with you. Elena, thank you... I don't even have the words."
Elena: "You don't need to thank me, Mr. Sterling. Maya is like family to all of us who work here."
While the paramedics examined Maya, the police officer returned with a laptop in his hands, having reviewed the security footage from the main server room.
Police Officer: "Mr. Sterling, I just watched the tape. It's crystal clear. She intentionally carried the infant to the ledge, looked down, and dropped her."
David: "I knew it... She wanted Maya out of the picture."
Police Officer: "Why would she do something like that?"
David: "My late wife left a twenty-million-dollar trust fund exclusively for Maya. If something happened to Maya before her eighteenth birthday, the trust fund defaulted to me and my current spouse. Patricia knew that."
Police Officer: "So this was about the money."
David: "It was always about the money. She married me six months ago, and ever since, she's been trying to isolate Maya from the staff."
Elena: "Mr. Sterling, there's something else you should know. Last night, I heard Mrs. Sterling talking on the phone in the study."
David: "What did she say, Elena?"
Elena: "She was talking to a divorce lawyer, asking how quickly she could liquidate your family assets if an emergency occurred."
