The pristine marble floor of the Dallas mansion was cold beneath Sarah’s knees. She wiped at the polish, her uniform frayed at the wrists, while the heavy silence of the house weighed down on her. Upstairs, a sharp laugh echoed over the grand balcony. Victoria was standing near the carved wooden railing, holding a small wrapped bundle in her arms. Her blue sequined dress caught the crystal chandelier light, shimmering like armor.
Victoria: Hey maid, look out! What happens if my hands slip?
Sarah froze, the damp cloth dropping from her fingers. She looked up, her heart hammering against her ribs as she saw the baby suspended over the drop.
Sarah: No, please! Don't hurt the innocent baby! Have mercy!
Victoria: You think you belong in this house? You think anyone cares what happens under this roof?
Sarah: Please, Victoria! Step back from the railing! He’s just a child!
Victoria: Oops! Catch!
The blue dress shifted, and Victoria unclasped her hands. The wrapped bundle plummeted straight toward the marble floor. Sarah didn't think. She threw her body across the polished stone, sliding on her knees, her arms outstretched into the empty air, reaching for the falling weight before it hit the hard floor.
