Elena sat in Thomas's small, warm garage, sipping hot tea while a towel rested over her wet shoulders. Thomas pulled out an old cardboard box labeled with legal documents.
Elena: "What does Arthur's estate have to do with me, Uncle Thomas?"
Thomas: "Victoria isn't just cruel, Elena. She's desperate. Arthur's father left a massive trust fund worth forty million dollars."
Elena: "Forty million dollars?"
Thomas: "Yes. But the will has a strict clause. The money only transfers to Arthur and Victoria if they have a biological child together before Arthur turns forty."
Elena: "Arthur turned forty last month..."
Thomas: "Exactly. And baby Maya was born three months ago. But six months ago, I was hired by a private client to look into Victoria's medical history."
Elena: "What did you find?"
Thomas: "Victoria was never pregnant."
Elena gasped, setting her mug down on the wooden workbench. Her hands began to shake again, but this time from shock, not fear.
Elena: "What are you saying?"
Thomas: "Baby Maya isn't Victoria's child. Victoria adopted her illegally from a fake clinic overseas to secure that forty million dollar inheritance."
Elena: "Does Arthur know?"
Thomas: "Arthur has no idea. He thinks Maya is his biological daughter. But if anyone discovers the truth, Victoria loses the mansion, the money, and goes straight to federal prison for child trafficking."
Elena: "That's why she tried to hurt the baby... She realized the legal paperwork was unraveling!"
Thomas: "Or she needed a tragic accident to blame on someone else before Arthur's custody attorneys audited the birth certificates."
Elena: "She wanted me to be the scapegoat."
Thomas: "Precisely. But we have a problem. Arthur's high-powered defense lawyers have already filed a police report against you for felony child endangerment."
Elena: "What am I going to do? I can't afford a divorce lawyer or a criminal defense attorney!"
Thomas: "You don't need to hire one. I know a top probate attorney who has been looking for a reason to expose Victoria's fake trust fund claims."
Thomas picked up his flip phone and dialed a number. A moment later, a deep voice answered the speakerphone.
Lawyer Vance: "Thomas? What do you have for me?"
Thomas: "Vance, I have the maid from the Sterling mansion sitting in front of me. She just saved the infant's life, and Victoria framed her."
Lawyer Vance: "Is she willing to testify in court?"
Elena: "I'll do whatever it takes to protect that baby!"
Lawyer Vance: "Then get ready, young lady. We are filing an emergency lawsuit against the Sterling estate tomorrow morning."
