Julian dialed his private attorney, Arthur Pendelton, placing the call on speakerphone while keeping his eyes fixed on Victoria.
Arthur: Julian? I was just about to call you. Did you review the revised estate and life insurance documents I emailed this morning?
Julian: What documents, Arthur? I haven't checked my mail since the board meeting.
Arthur: The amendments to your primary life insurance policy and the baby’s trust fund. Victoria submitted the signed request to transfer full execution rights to her personal account in case of any domestic accident or emergency.
Julian’s expression turned to stone. He lowered the phone slightly, staring at his wife, whose breath was now coming in ragged, shallow gasps.
Julian: She submitted signed requests? I never signed any policy amendments.
Maria: Mr. Vance... yesterday when I was dusting Mrs. Vance's desk in the study, I saw a stack of papers from the bank next to a copy of your signature on light-box paper.
Victoria: You quiet little viper! You were spying on my private papers!
Maria: I wasn't spying! I was cleaning, and you shoved them into the drawer when I walked in!
Julian: Victoria... is this true? Were you setting up an insurance claim?
Victoria: She’s lying, Julian! She’s trying to destroy our marriage so you won't press charges against her!
