The heavy double doors of the mansion swung open with a dramatic thud. Marcus Sterling stood in the entryway, wearing his dark tailored tuxedo from his morning flight back from his international business summit.
Marcus: What in God's name is going on in my house?! Why are the security gates open, and why is there construction dust everywhere?!
Marcus froze in his tracks. His leather briefcase slipped from his hand and hit the marble floor with a heavy clatter. His eyes went wide as he took in the chaotic scene before him.
Marcus: Evelyn? Elena? Why are you holding a sledgehammer?
Evelyn immediately changed her demeanor, dropping to her knees and letting out a loud, dramatic sob as she pointed her finger accusingly at Elena.
Evelyn: Marcus! Oh thank Heaven you are home! The maid went crazy! She started smashing the structural walls in the hall with a hammer! I tried to stop her, but she attacked me!
Elena: Don't listen to her, Mr. Sterling! Look behind me!
Marcus: What is the meaning of this? Elena, drop that hammer immediately before I call the police!
Elena: Look at the wall, Mr. Sterling! Look who was trapped inside!
Elena stepped aside, revealing the dust-covered, tear-streaked eight-year-old boy standing beside the splintered drywall.
Marcus: Leo...?
Marcus’s voice cracked. His face went completely pale, all color draining from his skin in an instant as his knees visibly wobbled.
Marcus: YOU TOLD ME MY SON WAS DEAD?!
The roar of anger and pain that erupted from Marcus’s chest echoed through the high ceilings of the villa, shaking the glass chandelier above.
Evelyn: Marcus, sweetie, listen to me! It's a hallucination! That isn't Leo! She brought an orphan boy into our home to trick you for money!
Marcus: Shut your mouth, Evelyn!
Marcus shoved past Evelyn, dropping down to his knees on the hard marble floor in front of the little boy. His trembling hands reached out, brushing the thick layer of wall dust away from Leo's hair and cheeks.
Marcus: Leo... My sweet boy... Is it really you? Am I dreaming?
Leo: Daddy! Daddy, you came back!
Leo threw his frail arms around his father's neck, weeping hysterically into Marcus's tuxedo jacket. Marcus wrapped his arms tightly around his son, burying his face in the child's small shoulder as heavy tears streamed down his face.
Marcus: Oh God... My baby boy! I thought I lost you forever! They gave me an urn... They told me you died of sudden organ failure while I was in Europe!
Leo: Stepmother put me in the dark wall, Daddy! She told me you didn't want me anymore because I was bad!
Marcus: What?!
Marcus pulled back slightly, holding Leo by his arms as his eyes filled with disbelief and terror.
Leo: She locked me behind the drywall three weeks ago! She only gave me bread and water at night! She said if I made a noise, she would never let me out!
Marcus: Evelyn... Tell me this isn't true... TELL ME THIS ISN'T TRUE!
Evelyn backed away toward the front door, her hands shaking as she tried to fix her disheveled silk robe.
Evelyn: He’s confused, Marcus! The boy has been sick! He's making up stories because of fever!
Elena: She lied to you about everything, Mr. Sterling! Look inside that wall cavity! There is a blanket, empty water bottles, and soundproof foam glued to the studs!
