Marcus stood up slowly, his tall frame trembling with pure rage as he stared at his wife. He walked over to the hole in the wall and looked inside the cramped, dark cavity. His jaw clenched so tight the muscles in his neck strained.
Marcus: Soundproofing foam... A dirty blanket... God in heaven, you turned my home into a prison for my only child!
Evelyn: Marcus, please let me explain! I did it for us! The boy was going to inherit his mother's whole estate when he turned eighteen! We would have been left with nothing if his trust fund activated!
Marcus: Nothing?! I am worth thirty million dollars! You had everything a human being could ever dream of having!
Evelyn: But it wasn't MY money! I wanted sole ownership of the Dallas estate and the life insurance settlement!
Leo stepped forward, his small hand reaching into his dust-covered shorts pocket. He pulled out a small, rectangular black USB recording device that was scratched and dented.
Leo: Daddy... Take this.
Marcus: What is this, Leo?
Leo: MY STEPMOTHER LOCKED ME THERE! MY STEPMOTHER MOCKED ME! I RECORDED ALL THE SECRETS!
The entire hall fell dead silent for a long moment. Evelyn gasped loudly, her eyes bulging in pure terror as she stared at the little black drive in Leo's hand.
Marcus: What secrets, son?
Leo: She dropped her voice recorder in my room two weeks ago before she walled it off. I pressed the red button every time she came to the wall to talk to her lawyer on speakerphone!
Elena: He was recording her phone calls from inside the wall!
Marcus: Is this true, Evelyn?
Leo: She talked about changing your will, Daddy! She talked about paying a fake doctor ten thousand dollars to sign a death certificate for me!
Evelyn made a sudden desperate dash forward, her fingernails extended as she tried to snatch the flash drive out of Leo’s small hand.
Evelyn: Give me that, you little rat!
Elena: Get back!
Elena instantly stepped in front of Leo, pushing Evelyn backward with her shoulder. Evelyn stumbled on her high heels and fell hard onto the polished marble floor, her silk robe tearing at the hem.
Marcus: Don't you touch my son ever again!
Marcus took the small black USB drive from Leo's hand and placed it securely inside his inner tuxedo pocket, buttoning his jacket tight.
Marcus: You staged my son's death... You faked legal documents... You tortured an eight-year-old boy for money...
Evelyn: Marcus, baby, please! I love you! I lost my mind because of stress! I can go to therapy! We can fix this as a family!
Marcus: Fix this?! You buried my child alive behind sheetrock while I was weeping across the ocean!
Evelyn: Please don't destroy my life, Marcus! Think of our reputation in Dallas! Think of what the news channels will say!
Marcus: I don't give a damn about my reputation! You are a monster!
