Justice On Cold Marble

The Steel Door She Locked to Take It All

Victoria: If you call the police, Daniel, I swear I will drag the Miller family name through every tabloid in the United States!

Daniel: Do you really think I care about headlines when my son and father were put in danger?

Victoria: Think about your company's stock value! Think about the board of directors! A public scandal will wipe out millions!

Arthur: The board answers to me, young lady. And tomorrow morning, they will review the security camera footage from the foyer ceiling.

Victoria's head snapped upward toward the ornate crown molding near the chandelier. A tiny green LED light blinked steadily from a discreet lens hidden among the plaster roses.

Victoria: You... you said those cameras were disconnected during the foyer painting last month!

Arthur: I told you that because I knew someone was snooping through the estate files while Daniel was in Chicago.

Victoria: You recorded everything?

Arthur: High-definition audio and video. Every shout, every threat, and the exact second you dragged me toward that safe.

Victoria fell to her knees on the polished marble floor, her manicured fingers clawing at Daniel's trouser leg as desperate tears began streaking her makeup.

Victoria: Daniel! Please, I beg you! Have mercy on me! I have nowhere else to go! My family will disown me!

Daniel: Let go of me.

Victoria: Daniel, I loved you! I swear I loved you at the beginning! Just give me one more chance, please!

Daniel: You loved the private jets, the jewelry accounts, and the Miller name. You never loved me, and you certainly never cared for my son.

Toby: She told me yesterday that she couldn't wait to send me to a boarding school across the country, Dad.

Daniel: Nobody is ever sending you away, Toby. You are safe now.

Daniel pulled his leg free from Victoria's grip, stepping back as the distant sound of police sirens began wailing down the private, tree-lined estate driveway.

Victoria: You called them already? When did you call them?!

Daniel: The moment Toby shouted when I stepped through the door, my watch triggered an emergency silent alarm to the local precinct.

Victoria: Daniel, please! Don't let them arrest me! Let me just take my clothes and leave! I'll sign the divorce papers right now!

Daniel: You will sign whatever the district attorney puts in front of you. Attempted murder, elder abuse, and felony assault on a minor.

Victoria: Murder?! I didn't murder anyone!

Arthur: Depriving an elderly heart patient of oxygen and medication inside a locked vault is attempted murder in any courtroom in America.

The heavy front doors swung wide open as four uniformed police officers, accompanied by two paramedics carrying medical bags, hurried into the foyer.

Officer Hayes: Mr. Miller! We received the distress signal. What's the situation here?

Daniel: Officer, this woman attempted to murder my father and assaulted my son. Take her into custody immediately.
