Arthur: We are gathered here today to read the Last Will and Testament of Richard Edward Vance, dated October 14th, 2024.
Victoria: Wait, October 2024? That was only three months ago! My father was in the intensive care unit back then!
Eleanor: He was perfectly lucid, Victoria. He knew exactly what he was doing when he called his personal attorney to update his estate plans.
Victoria: You changed his lawyer? Arthur has been his family attorney for over twenty-five years!
Arthur: Victoria, please let me review the text. I was sent a certified copy from the probate court this morning.
Victoria: Read it, Arthur. Tell me what she forced him to sign while he was pumped full of hospital medication!
Arthur: According to Article Two of this document... all real property, including the Dallas mansion, the commercial real estate portfolio, and liquid bank accounts, are to be transferred immediately into a private trust controlled solely by Eleanor Vance.
Victoria: What?! No! That is an absolute lie!
Eleanor: It is not a lie, sweetie. It's fully notarized and signed in black ink.
Victoria: My father promised me the trust fund! He promised me the family business! He told me on his deathbed that I would take over as CEO of Vance Enterprises!
Eleanor: Promises are just cheap words in the wind, Victoria. Look at the signature yourself.
Eleanor leaned across the glass coffee table, sliding a single sheet of paper toward Victoria. Victoria snatched the paper, her eyes scanning down the legal jargon until she reached the bottom line. There, in shaky, irregular strokes, was her father's name. But right beside it was Eleanor's bold, clear signature as the sole executor and primary beneficiary.
Victoria: His hand was shaking! Look at this writing! He couldn't even hold a pen properly during those final weeks!
Eleanor: He was tired, Victoria. Tired of you constantly working in Chicago instead of sitting by his bedside.
Victoria: I was running his Midwest expansion office! He asked me to be there! You kept blocking my phone calls!
Eleanor: I was protecting his peace from your endless demands for funding and company shares.
Victoria: I never asked him for a dime! I worked my way up from the bottom of his firm!
Arthur: Eleanor, what about the original prenuptial agreement executed prior to your marriage in 2021?
Eleanor: Oh, that old thing? Richard revoked it. We signed an amendment right after he modified his will.
Victoria: A prenup cannot be revoked without both parties having independent legal representation! Did my father have his own attorney present?
Eleanor: Mr. Miller was there. He represented us both quite amicably.
Arthur: Dual representation on a prenup modification? That is a severe conflict of interest in the state of Texas.
Eleanor: File a lawsuit if you don't like it, Arthur. But in the meantime, this mansion is officially mine. And I want Victoria off my property before noon.
Victoria: You snake! You isolated him from his own daughter so you could steal his life's work!
Eleanor: Call me whatever names you want. But pack your bags, because security is already standing at the front gates.
Victoria stood up so fast her wooden chair clattered onto the hardwood floor. She stared into Eleanor's cold, calculating eyes, feeling an overwhelming surge of rage. But instead of crying, she took a deep breath, straightened her jacket, and turned to Arthur.
Victoria: We are taking this to court, Arthur. We are challenging the validity of this entire will on grounds of undue influence and fraud.
Arthur: I will file an emergency injunction with the probate judge before the afternoon ends.
Eleanor: Good luck with that, old man. My legal team is already three steps ahead of you.
