Mark stood frozen in the middle of the foyer, looking back and forth between his crying mother and his frantic wife. The tension in the room was suffocating. Vanessa immediately rushed to Mark’s side, wrapping her arms around his arm and putting on a masterclass of fake tears.
Vanessa: Mark, sweetie, look at her hands shaking! She's getting too old to care for a baby. She almost killed our daughter today! We need to call a facility immediately.
Mark: Mother... please tell me what's going on. Did you lose your balance?
Evelyn: Mark, look at me. Look into my eyes. Have I ever lied to you in your entire life?
Vanessa: Don't let her manipulate you, Mark! She's jealous of me! She's hated me since the day we got married because I took her place in this house!
Mark: Everyone quiet down! I can't think!
Evelyn: Mark... she thinks she's clever. She thinks no one saw what she did up on that balcony.
Vanessa: Because nothing happened except your dementia flaring up!
Evelyn: Is that so, Vanessa? Then why did your maintenance team install the new smart security system upstairs last Tuesday?
Vanessa’s face instantly drained of color. Her grip on Mark’s arm loosened slightly. Evelyn pulled her mid-range smartphone from her apron pocket with steady, determined hands.
Evelyn: Pointing right at the sixth-floor balcony railing is the high-definition CCTV camera you paid ten thousand dollars for last week, Vanessa. The feed syncs directly to the family app on my phone.
Vanessa: That... that camera isn't active yet! The technician said it was off!
Evelyn: I turned it on myself this morning because I didn't trust you near my baby.
Mark: Give me the phone, Mom.
Evelyn handed her phone to Mark. He unlocked the screen and tapped the security application. Vanessa lunged forward, trying to snatch the phone out of his hands, but Mark pushed her back firmly.
Vanessa: Mark, don't look at that! It's fake! She manipulated it!
Mark: Shut up, Vanessa! Let me watch!
The video loaded instantly on the screen. Mark watched in absolute horror as the clear 4K footage showed Vanessa grabbing baby Lily, walking over to the edge, and deliberately shoving her over the railing. He saw his mother sprint with unbelievable courage. He saw the cold smirk on Vanessa's face.
