Patricia: Richard, how can you even hesitate?! I am your wife! I live in this mansion with you, I share your life, your name, your estate!
Maria: Mr. Davis, I have been taking care of this house and your daughter with complete devotion. I would give my life to protect little Lily!
Patricia: She’s just a hired worker, Richard! She’s probably bitter because you denied her pay raise last month! She wants to frame me so she can sue us for damages!
Maria: I never asked for a raise, Mrs. Davis! You know that's not true!
Patricia: You're a liar! You've been acting suspiciously for weeks, slinking around the mansion, lurking near the private office!
Richard wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He looked up toward the high balcony, measuring the distance to the hard marble floor below. It was a twenty-foot drop. If Maria hadn't caught Lily, the toddler wouldn't have survived.
Richard: Patricia, calm down for a second. Let me think.
Patricia: Calm down?! Our baby was almost murdered in our own home! You need to protect your family! Call the police and have this dangerous woman thrown into a cell!
Maria: Please, Mr. Davis. Look at my knees. Look at my arms. I skidded across the marble to catch her. My uniform is torn. If I dropped her, how would I be underneath her on the floor?
Patricia: You slipped while trying to run away after pushing her! You fell on top of her by accident!
Maria: That makes no sense, Mrs. Davis! If I pushed her from the balcony upstairs, how could I be down here on the ground floor falling on top of her?!
Patricia stopped mid-sentence. Her eyes flickered with a brief flash of terror as she realized her logical slip. But she quickly snapped back, her voice growing sharper and more desperate.
Patricia: You were upstairs with her! You dropped her, ran down the back stairs, and pretended to be the savior when you heard Richard's car in the driveway!
Maria: The back stairs take almost a full minute to run down! Lily would have hit the floor before anyone could make it halfway down those stairs!
Patricia: Shut up! Just shut up!
Richard: Patricia, stop screaming!
Patricia: You're taking her side over mine?! Your own wife?! I gave up my career to live here with you, to manage this estate, to be a mother to your child!
Richard: I am not taking anyone's side yet! I am trying to understand how a child almost died in my foyer!
Maria: Mr. Davis, check the hidden security sensors. Check the estate records. I was downstairs the entire morning preparing the guest rooms.
Patricia: The security system in the main foyer was turned off for maintenance this morning! You knew that! That's why you chose today to attack my baby!
Maria: I didn't know anything about the security cameras being turned off, Mrs. Davis. But it seems you certainly did.
Patricia's face turned pale. She stepped back toward the staircase, her hands shaking slightly.
