The Wealthy Heiress Overheard Her Stepmother Selling Her Trust Fund Before Wedding

The heavy polished brass door of the private country club suite was cracked open barely half an inch, letting a sharp bar of gold light cut across the dark hallway carpet.

Elena stood frozen outside, her silver bridal clutch trembling against the white lace of her evening gown.

Inside, crystal flutes clinked over hushed, mocking whispers.

Clara: Did you make sure she left her briefcase in the limousine?

Marcus: Clara, relax. She thinks I spent all afternoon inspecting the floral arrangements for the garden terrace. She has no idea what a corporate deed assignment looks like.

Elena felt her stomach drop through the floorboards. That was Marcus. Her fiancé. The man she was set to marry in less than twenty-four hours in front of four hundred guests.

Clara: Charles was an arrogant fool. He thought leaving eighty percent of the commercial logistics company to Elena in a private trust fund would protect her forever. He never imagined we would find the original shareholder codicil.

Marcus: And once she signs the amended prenuptial agreement tonight, every voting share transfers directly into our offshore holding entity.

Clara: The billionaire buyers in Chicago wired the earnest money this morning. Two hundred million dollars cash, Marcus. Your cut wipes out every mortgage and private debt your father left behind.

Marcus: And what about Elena?

Clara: She gets the mountain cottage upstate and a modest monthly allowance. Enough to keep her quiet and docile. She never had the stomach for the boardroom anyway.

Marcus: A simple life for a simple girl. Let's make sure the notary is waiting right by the head table.

Elena backed away silently, her breath catching in her dry throat as her spine hit the cold oak wainscoting.

She reached into her coat pocket, feeling the cold steel edge of her secondary company phone.

Marcus thought he had completely cut her off when he slipped her personal phone out of her purse under the excuse of charging it in his dashboard console.

He had no idea she had spoken with her late father's corporate attorney, Arthur Vance, just two hours ago.

Inside the room, Marcus let out a low, smug chuckle that turned her blood to pure ice.

Marcus: The girl trusts me with her life. When I tell her to sign, she signs.

Elena tapped the screen of her hidden phone, holding the small speaker against her ear as shadows fell over her face.

Elena: Arthur... they’re preparing the fraudulent documents right now. Bring the federal marshals directly to the dining room.
