Special Agent Miller stepped into the center of the dining hall, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.
Agent Miller: Clara Sterling, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, wire fraud, and grand larceny.
Clara: Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am? My husband owned half this city!
Agent Miller: Your husband was murdered, ma'am, and your co-conspirator gave us every text message on your server.
Clara whipped around, her eyes bulging with raw hatred as she glared at Marcus.
Clara: You recorded our phone calls? You pathetic, spineless coward!
Marcus: Agent Miller, I want immunity! I will cooperate fully! I have the bank account routing numbers, the shell corporation filings, everything!
Arthur: The United States Attorney has already reviewed your preliminary proffer, Marcus. Immunity was denied twenty minutes ago.
Marcus: What? No! That's impossible! I didn't kill anyone!
Arthur: You forged court probate filings, facilitated grand theft, and extorted an estate. That carries a mandatory thirty-year sentence in federal prison.
Marcus collapsed into a dining chair, his face buried in his trembling palms as loud, pathetic sobs shook his shoulders.
Marcus: Elena... please. Look at me. We were supposed to build a life together. You can't let them take me away.
Elena walked slowly toward him, her satin train gliding smoothly across the floor.
The room was so quiet that every single person could hear the soft rustle of her dress.
Elena: Do you remember what you whispered to me the night my father passed away?
Marcus looked up with red, streaming eyes, his hands shaking violently.
Marcus: I told you... I told you I would protect you forever.
Elena: You told me that everything happens for a reason, Marcus. You told me that trials reveal who is weak and who is strong.
Elena reached down to her left hand, slowly sliding off the massive diamond engagement ring.
She held the glittering ring right over Marcus's open, trembling palm.
Elena: You were right. Tonight revealed everything. And it turns out, I don't need your protection.
She opened her fingers, letting the heavy diamond ring drop straight into Marcus's plate, where it clattered against the porcelain and splashed into the red wine.
Marcus: Elena, please don't do this! I love you! I really do love you!
Elena: You loved my father's trust fund, Marcus. And now, you can spend the next thirty years explaining that love to a cellmate.
The second federal agent stepped behind Marcus, pulling his arms roughly behind his back.
The cold metallic click of handcuffs echoed across the hall like a judge's final gavel strike.
Clara: You think you've won, Elena? You think you can run a billion-dollar logistics enterprise on your own? You're a weak, sheltered girl who will run this empire straight into the ground!
Elena stood tall, her spine straight as steel, meeting Clara’s venomous glare without blinking.
Elena: My father spent twenty-five years teaching me how to run this business, Clara. The only mistake he ever made was letting a viper sleep in his bed.
Clara spat on the carpet as the agents dragged her out through the mahogany doors.
Marcus cried out in hysterical terror as the second agent shoved him forward into the hallway.
Marcus: Elena! Call my family! Hire an attorney for me! Elena!
His screams faded down the corridor until the heavy outer doors slammed shut.
Elena turned back toward the dining table, facing the silent, stunned assembly of corporate board members.
Judge Henderson: Elena... on behalf of the entire board, we owe you an unforgivable apology. We were completely blind.
Elena: You weren't blind, Judge Henderson. You were comfortable. And comfort makes powerful men lazy.
Director Simmons: What happens to the company now? The Chicago deal was scheduled to close on Monday morning.
Elena picked up the fraudulent blue portfolio from the table, carried it to the roaring fireplace, and dropped it into the flames.
The fake signatures curled into black ash within seconds.
Elena: The Chicago deal is dead. Tomorrow morning at eight sharp, every board member will report to headquarters for a forensic audit.
Judge Henderson: And tomorrow's wedding?
Elena: The wedding is canceled, gentlemen. But the board meeting will proceed as planned.
