The scream tore through the grand foyer of the sprawling Connecticut estate like shattering glass.
Elena: I’ve got him! Oh God, I’ve got him!
Elena hit the polished oak floor hard, skinning both her knees as her arms locked tight around a bundle of soft white blankets.
Her entire body trembled violently against the floorboards.
David: What the hell just happened down here?!
David rushed out of his private study, his expensive suit jacket flapping open as his eyes locked onto the scene in terror.
Up on the mezzanine balcony, twenty feet above the hardwood foyer, his wife stood clutching the carved wooden railing.
Victoria: David! Call the police right now! She dropped him! That monster just dropped our baby!
Victoria's voice shrieked with rehearsed horror, her manicured fingers trembling against her designer dress.
Elena: No, Mr. Vance! Please, that’s not true! I caught him! I swear to God I caught him!
Elena pulled the newborn closer to her chest, tears streaming down her pale cheeks as the infant wailed.
David: Give me my son! Step away from him right now, Elena!
David lunged across the foyer, his face pale with rage and sheer panic.
Elena: He’s safe, sir. He’s breathing, look at him. But you have to hear me—
David: Don't speak another word! You were holding him near the stairs after I explicitly warned you!
Victoria: I saw her tilt her arms, David! She leaned right over the banister and let him slip out of her grasp!
Victoria walked down the curved staircase, dabbing at dry eyes with a silk handkerchief.
Elena: That is an evil lie! I was dusting the lower baseboards when I saw him falling through the air!
David: You expect me to believe a baby climbed over a safety rail alone?!
David tore his infant son from Elena's shaking hands, inspecting the crying baby with frantic, terrified breaths.
Victoria: She was jealous, David. Ever since we signed the updated family trust fund, she’s been acting strange!
David: I pay you top dollar to clean this mansion, not endanger my family!
Elena: Mr. Vance, please! I have worked for your family for six years. I loved your first wife, and I love your children!
Victoria: Stop bringing up his late wife to manipulate him! David, call the sheriff immediately and press attempted murder charges!
David pulled out his phone, his thumb hovering over the emergency dial pad, his jaw clenched with absolute fury.
Just as he pressed the green button, frantic footsteps echoed down the upstairs corridor.
Chloe: Dad! Dad, stop! Put the phone down right now!
Eight-year-old Chloe sprinted down the hallway, her small face red and eyes filled with panic as she pointed toward the smart home panel on the wall.
