Selena: What are you talking about? The guests aren't supposed to arrive for another forty-five minutes!
Mark: Those aren't wedding guests, Selena. That's the District Attorney and two officers from the Financial Crimes Unit.
Selena: You... you called the police on your own wedding day?!
Mark: I called them twenty minutes ago, right after my mother showed me the empty boxes in Lily's bedroom.
Selena: On what grounds?! I haven't committed any crime!
Mark: Attempted child abandonment, grand larceny, and corporate espionage. Should I go on?
Selena's face drained of all color. She rushed toward the grand window overlooking the estate drive. A black police sedan had pulled up alongside a sleek silver Mercedes. Two uniformed officers stepped out, accompanied by a sharp-looking man in a grey suit carrying a leather briefcase.
Selena: You're bluffing! David wouldn't talk to the police!
Mark: David didn't have a choice. He was arrested at his desk an hour ago for wire fraud.
Selena: You knew? You knew about him all along?!
Mark: I noticed small discrepancies in the trust account three weeks ago. I let him think he was getting away with it so I could find out who was pulling his strings.
Selena: Mark, please... listen to me! I did this for us! I wanted us to have a fresh start without the baggage of the past!
Mark: My daughter is not baggage! She is the best part of my life!
Selena: We can fix this! We can sign a prenuptial agreement that leaves everything to you! Just don't let them arrest me!
Mark: It's too late for deals, Selena. The moment you laid a hand on my daughter's memories, you destroyed any chance of mercy.
The heavy oak front doors swung open downstairs. The echo of heavy boots echoed up the marble staircase, accompanied by the stern voice of the lead detective calling Mark's name.
Officer Reed: Mr. Kingsley? We have the warrant signed by Judge Vance.
Mark: Up here, Officer! She's in the master hallway!
Selena: You monster! I will destroy you for this! I'll make sure everyone in this city knows your precious daughter is a fraud!
Mark: The only fraud in this house is standing in a white dress right in front of me.
