Vanessa hit the marble hard, her hands scraping against the polished stone as she scrambled backward like a trapped animal.
Vanessa: Wait, please! Let me explain!
Julian: Explain what? How you let my seven-year-old boy starve in an attic while you spent my money on designer couture?
Vanessa: I did it for us, Julian! You were completely broken after the crash!
Julian: You did it for yourself! You wanted the Sterling family fortune without any heirs in your way!
Vanessa: He was a reminder of her! Every time you looked at him, you would have seen Claire instead of me!
The guests erupted into furious chatter, several prominent Dallas oil barons shaking their heads in disgust.
Richard Vance: Vanessa! Keep your mouth shut right now!
Vanessa's father bolted from the third row, his expensive suit rumpled as he tried to intervene.
Richard: Julian, let's step into the vestry! We can settle this family matter without making a scene!
Julian: Back off, Richard. Touch me and you'll share a cell with your daughter.
Richard: You can't accuse my daughter based on a street child's wild ramblings!
Marcus: It's not just ramblings, Mr. Vance.
Julian's best man, Marcus, stepped forward holding his smartphone, his screen illuminated with banking records.
Marcus: Julian, I just pulled the wire transfers from your corporate foundation account. Vanessa had secondary authorization.
Julian: What did she move, Marcus?
Marcus: Twenty thousand dollars every single month to an LLC registered under Thomas Henderson's brother.
Vanessa: That was charity! I was donating to an orphanage foundation in Henderson's name!
Leo: It wasn't an orphanage! It was an old garage with padlocks on the doors! He locked me in the room whenever visitors came!
Leo clung tightly to Julian's trouser leg, his small frame trembling with remembered terror.
Leo: He told me you threw me away because I wasn't smart enough. He told me you had a new wife and hated me.
Julian knelt down again, pulling Leo tight into his chest as hot tears spilled over his cheeks.
Julian: I never stopped looking for you, Leo. I swear to God, I never stopped looking for a single day.
Leo: I kept the locket in my sock, Dad. Every time he went to sleep, I looked at Mom's picture inside.
Julian: You are the bravest boy in the world. And no one will ever lay a hand on you again.
Julian stood back up, his eyes turning cold as steel as he looked down at Vanessa crawling on the floor.
Julian: You took five years of his life. Five years of his childhood.
Vanessa: Julian, I love you! Everything I did was so we could have a clean slate together!
Julian: That's not love. That's pure evil.
Julian reached down, grabbed Vanessa firmly by her upper arm, and hauled her to her feet.
Vanessa: Let go of me! You're hurting my arm!
Julian: You didn't care about hurting an innocent child when you slapped him across this sanctuary.
Vanessa: Dad! Do something! Call our private security team!
Richard: Julian, release her! This is assault!
Julian: This is a citizen's arrest for felony child kidnapping and criminal conspiracy.
With an iron grip, Julian dragged Vanessa toward the center aisle, her satin gown sweeping across the marble while she kicked and shrieked.
Julian: You wanted a grand entrance today, Vanessa. Now you're getting a grand exit.
Vanessa: Stop! Somebody help me! Julian, please!
Julian: You are going straight to federal prison!
