FABLE

A Broken Promise at the Altar

The morning light filtered through the stained glass windows of the Dallas chapel, casting warm hues across the white pews. Outside, flowers bloomed along the garden path, setting the perfect stage for what should have been the happiest day of Daniel's life. He stood in his crisp white tuxedo, adjusting his black bow tie in the mirror of the bridal suite, trying to soothe the nervous flutter in his chest. Today, he was marrying Chloe, a woman he believed was the missing piece in his family's story after his first wife passed away three years ago.

Daniel: "Just take a deep breath, man. Today is a fresh start for both of you."

He turned toward the door, taking one last look at his reflection, ready to walk down the aisle. But a sudden, muffled cry from down the hallway shattered the quiet morning. Daniel froze, his heart pounding against his ribs as he recognized the voice instantly.

Daniel: "Lily?"

Panic surged through him as he sprinted out into the sunlit marble corridor. His polished dress shoes clattered loudly against the floor as he rushed past the double white doors leading toward the bride's vanity room. The door was slightly ajar, and the sound of soft, uncontrollable sobbing echoed into the hallway. Daniel threw the door open, his eyes scanning the room in absolute terror.

Daniel: "Lily! Where are you?"

His seven-year-old daughter was sitting on the floor, surrounded by scattered pink flower petals, clutching her arm and crying bitterly. Daniel dropped to his knees in front of her, his hands trembling as he reached out to comfort her.

Daniel: "What happened, sweetheart? Why are you crying?"

Lily: "Daddy, please don't marry her! She hurt me!"

Daniel pulled back her small sleeve, and his blood ran cold. Four deep, angry red scratches stretched across her soft skin, fresh and inflamed. Anger, raw and uncontrollable, ignited deep inside his chest. He looked at his crying daughter, then up toward the chapel doors where his bride was waiting.

Daniel: "Tell me everything, Lily. Don't leave out a single word."
