By late afternoon the news of Mark's disappearance spread rapidly.
Mark's parents sat in their beige living room sobbing softly.
A framed American flag hung on the clean white wall nearby.
Local police officers arrived to ask questions about the sudden event.
Mark's father buried his face in his hands on the couch.
Father: Where is our son and what happened to him?
Mother: He would never just abandon us like this today!
Sarah walked into the house wearing a plain blue dress.
She wiped away fake tears as she approached the crying parents.
Jason walked in right behind her with a solemn face.
Sarah: We searched everywhere along the mountain trail for Mark.
Jason: We found his car parked near the dangerous cliff edge.

Sarah: He said he wanted to be alone before the ceremony.
The lie came out of Sarah's mouth without any hesitation.
She stood close to Jason near the hallway entrance door.
Mark's father looked closely at Sarah's hand on the sofa arm.
He noticed a new gold wedding band on her left hand.
It was not the engagement ring his son had bought her.
Suspicion began to grow inside the grieving father's mind now.
Father: Where did you get that ring on your finger?
Sarah: It is just an old family ring I had.
Jason: We are just trying to help you find answers sir.
A detective stepped into the room holding a small plastic bag.
Inside the bag was a silver wrist watch found near rocks.
The glass on the watch face was completely shattered and scratched.
Mark's mother gasped loudly as she recognized the silver watch.
It was an inheritance piece given to Mark by his grandfather.
Detective: We found signs of a struggle near the cliff view.
Sarah: That cannot be true because he was all alone!
Father: You are lying to us about what happened up there!
The room became completely quiet as tension filled the air.
Jason stepped in front of Sarah to defend her quickly.
Jason: Do not accuse her when she is grieving too!
Father: Leave my house right now before I call authorities!
Sarah and Jason walked out to their car in silence.
They thought their secret plan had worked out completely fine.
They did not know that a trail camera caught everything clearly.
