The next morning the police chief called a meeting at station.
Sarah and Jason were summoned to give their final statements.
They walked into the bright office feeling confident and secure.
Mark's parents were already sitting inside the chief's room.
A large monitor was set up on the wooden conference desk.
Chief: We reviewed video footage from a nearby park camera.
Sarah's face turned completely pale as the screen turned on.
The video clearly showed the high mountain lookout in sunlight.
Jason was seen lunging forward and pushing Mark violently back.
Mark fell over the cliff edge while Sarah stood watching.
Then the video showed Sarah grabbing Jason's hand with joy.
They ran down the path together toward the small chapel.
Mark's mother stood up from her chair in total outrage.
Mother: You took our son away from us for money!
Sarah: It was an accident I swear it was!
Jason: She had nothing to do with any of this!
Chief: The video shows a planned act by both of you.
Two officers stepped forward with metal handcuffs ready in hand.
They placed the cold steel around Jason's wrists immediately.
Sarah began to cry real tears of fear and regret now.
Her dreams of getting the life insurance policy were gone.
Sarah: Please do not do this to me today!
Father: You will spend the rest of your life answering for this!
The officers led Sarah and Jason away down the hallway.
Just then the chief's phone rang with an urgent update.
The rescue team down in the canyon had news to report.
Rescue Lead: We found the young man alive in dense trees!
Mark had landed in a thick canopy of branches below.
He was battered and bruised but fully conscious and breathing.
His parents wept tears of overwhelming joy and true relief.
They rushed out to the mountain site to see Mark.
When they arrived Mark was resting safely on a stretcher.
Mark: I knew you would find the truth mom and dad.
Mother: You are safe now and that is all that matters.
The wicked plan had failed completely in the end today.
Justice was served and love restored a broken family again.
