Justice Arrives At The Gate

A Maid Saved His Crippled Son From A Wicked Plot

The heavy mahogany front doors swung open just as two Dallas patrol cruisers screeched to a halt along the circular driveway.

Four armed officers stepped out, their heavy boots crunching against the decorative gravel before bounding up the stone steps.

Ethan released Victoria's collar, leaving her sprawled on the exterior welcome mat in full view of the suburban street.

Officer Hayes: Dispatch reported a domestic disturbance and potential felony assault. Step back, sir.

Ethan: Officer Hayes, I am Ethan Vance. I called this in through our silent residential alarm system.

Victoria: Officer, arrest him! He assaulted me! He dragged me across the house and slapped me!

Victoria pointed an unsteady finger at her bruised cheek, sobbing hysterically for the officers' body cameras.

Victoria: Look at my face! Look at what this violent man did to his own wife!

Officer Hayes glanced down at her, then turned his gaze toward Elena, who stepped onto the porch holding Toby close.

A deep purple welt was already swelling visibly beneath Elena's left eye.

Elena: She struck me first, officer. She pushed me to the floor because I helped this little boy walk.

Ethan: Officer, the physical altercation is secondary to what has been happening inside this house for six months.

Ethan extended his open hand, revealing the brown prescription bottle and the crumpled delivery receipt.

Ethan: My wife has been systematically administering unauthorized neuro-inhibitors to my ten-year-old disabled son.

Officer Hayes' partner, a seasoned female officer, stepped forward and took the plastic container using an evidence bag.

Officer Miller: Are these prescription medications prescribed in the child's name, ma'am?

Victoria pressed her lips together, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she stayed silent.

Officer Miller: I asked you a direct question, ma'am. Is your name on this bottle?

Victoria: I want my lawyer. I am not answering any questions without my attorney present.

Officer Hayes: That is your right. Turn around and put your hands behind your back.

Victoria: What? No! You cannot arrest me on the word of a housekeeper!

Officer Hayes grabbed her wrists firmly, clicking the cold steel handcuffs around her manicured wrists with a sharp snap.

Victoria: Ethan! Tell them to stop! You are humiliating our family in front of the entire neighborhood!

Neighbors across the manicured cul-de-sac were already stepping onto their lawns, murmuring and pulling out their phones.

Ethan: You brought this humiliation on yourself, Victoria. The only thing I regret is not seeing through you sooner.

Officer Miller: Ma'am, you are under arrest for felony child endangerment, aggravated assault, and possession of controlled substances.

Victoria screamed curses as Officer Miller escorted her down the wide front steps toward the rear of the patrol vehicle.

Her designer heels dragged against the asphalt, leaving scuff marks along the pristine stone drive.

Toby leaned his head against Ethan's hip, his small fingers clutching his father’s belt loops.

Toby: Does this mean I don't have to drink the bitter milk anymore, dad?

Ethan knelt down immediately, tears spilling freely over his cheeks as he pulled Toby into a tight embrace.

Ethan: Never again, buddy. You are never taking another sip of that poison as long as I live.
