Chloe: Leaving?! You can't kick me out! We have a legal marriage, Mark!
Mark: You think a marriage license gives you the right to starve and beat my mother?!
Chloe: She's senile! She forgets things, she makes up stories to make me look bad!
Evelyn: I didn't make up anything, Chloe... you took my bank cards... you locked the pantry...
Mark: What?! Mom, what did you just say? She took your bank cards?
Evelyn: My monthly pension check... she said it was for house upkeep... but I haven't seen a cent in six months.
Mark: Chloe, where are her cards? Where is her pension money going?
Chloe: It's for household expenses! Bills, groceries, property tax! We all live here!
Mark: I pay the mortgage, Chloe! I pay every single bill in this house out of my salary!
Mark stood up slowly, stepping away from his mother just enough to face Chloe directly. His breathing was heavy, his chest heaving with a dangerous mix of heartbreak and absolute rage. The realization was slowly dawning on him that while he had been working twelve-hour shifts at the firm to build their future, his wife had been running a cruel campaign of financial extortion and physical torture right under his nose.
Mark: Show me the bank account statements right now.
Chloe: No! You don't get to command me like a child!
Mark: SHOW ME THE STATEMENTS!
Chloe: Fine! Look at them! See if I care!
Chloe stormed toward the office desk, grabbing a stack of mail and shoving it into Mark's chest. Mark snatched the papers, his eyes rapidly scanning down the transaction logs of Evelyn's private bank account. His blood ran ice-cold as he saw thousands of dollars drained every single month—luxury spa days, expensive designer clothing, high-end dining, and wire transfers to a separate account he didn't recognize.
Mark: What is this wire transfer? Who is 'J. Miller'?
Chloe: That's... that's my personal lawyer. I don't have to explain my personal finances to you!
Mark: Lawyer? Why are you paying a lawyer fifteen thousand dollars out of my mother's pension fund?!
Evelyn: Mark... she made me sign a paper last month... she said it was a medical release form...
Mark: A paper? Mom, what kind of paper did you sign?
Evelyn: I couldn't read the small print... my glasses were broken... she told me if I didn't sign, you would lose the house...
Mark: Oh God... Chloe, what did you make her sign?!
Chloe: Nothing! It was just standard paperwork for her power of attorney!
Mark: Power of attorney?! You forced a frail, elderly woman to hand over power of attorney without my knowledge?!
