The bright New York daylight flooded through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the luxury penthouse. Light marble floors sparkled under the midday sun, reflecting the pristine white walls and high-end artwork hanging around the expansive room. Standard framed art decorated the walls, giving the space the cold, clean feeling of a high-priced magazine spread. Yet the tense atmosphere inside the room was thick enough to choke on.
Victoria: You are back here again asking for money? Leave us alone!
Victoria's sharp voice echoed across the open floor plan, filled with pure venom. She smoothed down her tailored grey suit, her face twisted in absolute disgust as she glared across the foyer. She stood with her arms crossed tightly over her chest, stepping forward to block the entrance like a guard keeping out an unwanted trespasser.
Evelyn: Please... I am so sorry to bother you both. I really am.
Victoria: You should be sorry! You come creeping over here every few months with your hands out. Do you have no pride left?
Standing near the marble entryway was an elderly woman named Evelyn. Her soft white hair was pulled back neatly, her pale skin showing deep wrinkles and natural skin texture earned through decades of hard work. Her hands trembled noticeably as she clutched a worn, dark brown leather purse tightly against her chest. Tears welled up in her faded eyes, spilling over her cheeks.
Evelyn: My son... I just need money to eat... I wouldn't be here if I had anywhere else to turn.
Victoria: Your son works hard for his position! He doesn't owe you a single dime of his hard-earned salary! Right, Marcus?
A few feet away stood Marcus, a handsome man in a sleek black custom suit. He stared at his mother with an unreadable expression, his mouth set in a firm, rigid line. Beside him, Victoria smiled smugly, confident that her fiancé was about to throw the poor old woman out into the street forever.
Marcus: No. I am not giving you any money.
Evelyn gasped, clutching her purse tighter as her shoulders slumped in total defeat. But before she could turn toward the heavy double doors to leave, Marcus took three heavy steps forward, his eyes locked onto her trembling form.
