Victoria: Marcus, you are making a massive mistake! She is manipulating you! She knew if she cried in front of you, you would fold like a cardboard box!
Marcus: Manipulating me? She came here starving because you blocked her phone calls for three months!
Victoria: I did it for us! For our future! You can't keep carrying dead weight if you want to stay at the top of your company!
Marcus: Dead weight? You think the woman who worked sixteen-hour shifts at a greasy diner so I could buy textbooks for college is dead weight?
Marcus stuffed the last thick stack of hundred-dollar bills deep inside his mother's leather purse. The purse was so full of money now that the metal latch could barely snap shut. He gently smoothed down the worn leather flap, then held the purse tightly in his hands before wrapping his arms around his mother's frail shoulders.
Marcus: BECAUSE A MOTHER DOES NOT ASK FOR A LOAN! A MOTHER RECEIVES EVERYTHING HER SON CAN GIVE HER!
His voice cracked with intense emotional pain. Tears streamed down Marcus's face, unashamed and free, soaking into the shoulder of his tailor-made suit as he pulled his mother tightly into a deep, desperate embrace. Evelyn buried her face into her son's chest, sobbing loudly as years of hidden pain, fear, and poverty seemed to melt away in his warm arms.
Evelyn: Oh, my sweet boy... my sweet, good boy...
Marcus: I'm so sorry, Mom. I'm so sorry I let anyone make you feel small in my own house. I'm so sorry I was too busy working to see what was happening right in front of my eyes.
Victoria: Marcus... this is absurd. Look at you! You are crying over her like a child! What about our committee dinner? What about our wedding?
Marcus: There is no wedding, Victoria.
Victoria: What... what did you just say?
Marcus: You heard me clearly. The wedding is canceled. I am calling my lawyer immediately after you leave this apartment to start revoking your access to my trust fund and private accounts.
Victoria: You are breaking off our engagement over a bunch of pocket change for your mother?! Are you out of your mind?!
Marcus: It was never about the cash. It was about how you treated the woman who gave me life. If you can treat my mother like trash on the floor, you will treat me the same way the moment I lose my fortune.
