Dr. Evans: "Rest here, Clara. The police officers are sitting right outside that door, and nobody is coming inside without my personal permission."
Clara: "Where are you going, Marcus? Please don't do anything reckless."
Dr. Evans: "I'm going to the mansion. It's time Eleanor answered for what she's done."
Clara: "Take the divorce attorney's number from my bag. You'll need legal counsel before you step into that house."
Dr. Evans: "I don't need a lawyer to tell my mother that her reign over this family is over tonight."
Marcus marched out of the hospital main entrance, his long trench coat snapping in the cool night air as he reached his car. Within twenty minutes, he pulled up the long, winding driveway of the massive Evans estate in the wealthy outskirts of town. The grand stone mansion stood tall against the dark sky, illuminated by warm floodlights that masked the corruption hiding within its walls.
He pushed open the heavy oak front doors without knocking, his footsteps echoing sharply off the polished marble floors of the grand foyer. Eleanor Evans sat in her velvet armchair near the glowing fireplace, holding a crystal glass of scotch with effortless poise.
Eleanor: "Marcus, darling? What on earth are you doing here at three in the morning? Is the child born?"
Dr. Evans: "Cut the act, Eleanor. Brenda is in police custody right now."
Eleanor’s hand froze mid-air, the ice cubes clinking softly against the sides of her crystal glass. Her expression hardened instantly, the warm motherly façade melting away to reveal a cold, calculating woman.
Eleanor: "Brenda always was an incompetent fool. She never could finish a simple task without making a mess."
Dr. Evans: "A simple task? You sent your own sister to murder my unborn child!"
Eleanor: "Don't take that self-righteous tone with me! That girl Clara was a gold-digger who tricked you into ruining our family name!"
Dr. Evans: "Clara didn't trick anyone! You forged Dad's will ten years ago to steal my grandfather's trust fund!"
Eleanor: "I built this family business! Your father was a weak dreamer who would have given every dollar away to charity! I protected our wealth!"
Dr. Evans: "By committing felony fraud and attempted murder?"
Eleanor: "By doing what was necessary to preserve the Evans legacy!"
Marcus pulled his phone from his pocket, touching the screen to reveal a running voice recorder app that had been active since he stepped through the front door. Eleanor’s eyes went wide as she realized what he had just done.
Dr. Evans: "You just confessed on tape, Eleanor. Every single word."
Eleanor: "You wouldn't dare give that to the police! I am your mother!"
Dr. Evans: "A mother doesn't try to murder her own grandchild for a bank account."
