A procession of black SUVs pulled up to the Vance estate. Maria stepped out alongside Arthur, his legal team, and two plainclothes police officers. They walked silently through the heavy mahogany doors into the grand foyer.
Victoria was sitting on the leather sofa in the living room, sipping champagne and flipping through a luxury magazine.
Victoria: "Arthur, darling! You're back early. Did your lawyers finalize the separation terms?"
She stopped cold as Maria stepped into the room right behind Arthur.
Victoria: "What is SHE doing here? I told you to keep that criminal away from our home!"
Arthur: "She isn't the criminal in this room, Victoria."
Victoria: "What are you talking about? Are you taking her side over your own wife?"
Arthur pulled a tablet from his briefcase and laid it flat on the glass coffee table in front of her. He hit play.
The high-definition video showed the upper balcony clearly. Victoria's face was contorted in anger as she deliberately pushed the bundle over the edge. It showed Maria diving across the floor, catching the baby with split-second precision, and holding her close.
Victoria’s face drained of all color. The glass of champagne trembled in her hand.
Victoria: "Arthur... I... I can explain. It was an accident! I lost my grip!"
Arthur: "You dropped my daughter off a balcony! You framed an innocent woman who risked her life to save my child!"
Victoria: "Arthur, please! Think of our reputation! Think of the media!"
