The Gala of Deception

Left in the Freezing Ocean by the Father She Trusted

Raymond: To new beginnings and complete financial freedom!

Veronica: Cheers, darling! I still can't believe you managed to clear up all those messy estate claims so quickly.

Raymond: When a problem gets too heavy, Veronica, you simply drop it. Now, the trust fund inheritance is entirely ours.

Veronica: What about that little girl? Won't the police ask questions about why she didn't show up for her hospital appointment today?

Raymond: They’ll assume Clara took her on a trip. By the time anyone raises an alarm, our private jet leaves for the Bahamas.

Inside the grand ballroom of the Bellevue Ocean Resort, over two hundred wealthy donors gathered for the annual Maritime Charity Foundation gala. Raymond stood near the stage in his custom tuxedo, holding a champagne flute beside Veronica, who wore a diamond necklace paid for by Clara’s family estate funds.

Lawyer Hayes: Raymond, congratulations on the new coastal development contract. Is Clara joining us tonight to sign the final release documents for her father’s company?

Raymond: Unfortunately, Clara had an unexpected... emergency. As her legal power of attorney, I will be signing all corporate transfers on her behalf tonight.

Lawyer Hayes: Excellent. The board is waiting for the master deed. Once you sign, the seventy million dollar liquidation goes straight into your primary account.

Raymond: Exactly as planned, Hayes. Give me the pen.

Clara: Don't sign that paper, Mr. Hayes.

The glass doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open. A quiet hush fell over the crowd as Clara walked down the center aisle. She wore a simple black dress, her face pale, but her eyes burning with icy determination. Behind her walked two uniformed state investigators and a senior prosecutor.

Raymond: Clara?! You... how are you here?!

Clara: You look like you’ve seen a ghost, Raymond. Did you expect me to be at the bottom of the cove?

Veronica: Raymond, what is she talking about? You said she was gone!

Raymond: Shut up, Veronica! Clara, you're trespassing on private property! Security, escort this woman out!

Investigator Miller: Stand down, security. Mr. Vance, keep your hands where we can see them.

Raymond: On what grounds? This is a private charity auction!

Clara: On the grounds of attempted murder, grand larceny, and corporate fraud, Raymond.
