Mark: Are you okay, Sophie?
Sophie: Daddy... mean lady gone?
Mark: Yes, sweetie. The mean lady is gone, and she is never, ever coming back to our house again.
Elena: I can prepare a proper hot dinner for her now, Mr. Mark.
Mark: Thank you, Elena. And thank you for standing up for my daughter today when it mattered most.
Elena: I could not sit by and watch a child suffer, sir. No amount of money is worth that.
Mark: You're getting a permanent raise starting today, Elena. And a lifetime contract with our family estate.
Elena: Thank you, Mr. Mark. That is very generous of you.
Mark walked over to the kitchen island, picking up the broken padlock that had caused so much suffering.
Mark: This lock was meant to control my daughter... but it ended up unlocking the truth about who Brenda really was.
Sophie: Daddy look! Big smile!
Mark: That's right, sweetie. Big smiles from now on.
Two weeks later, the Dallas court granted Mark full emergency custody and a complete annulment of the marriage based on fraud and cruelty.
Lawyer: The judge signed off on everything, Mark. The trust assets are completely secured, and Brenda's bail was denied due to flight risk.
Mark: What about the house and father's estate?
Lawyer: Solely yours. Her name has been legally removed from all property titles and financial deeds.
Mark: That's the best news I've heard all year, Arthur.
Lawyer: She tried to negotiate a settlement, but the prosecutor is pushing for maximum state penitentiary time for the child abuse charges.
Mark: Let the law take its full course. She earned every single day of that sentence.
Mark put down the phone and walked out onto the sunny backyard patio, watching Sophie run freely across the green lawn with a laugh that filled the warm Texas air.
Sophie: Daddy, catch me!
Mark: I've got you, Sophie. Always.
He lifted his daughter high into the air, knowing that no locks, no secrets, and no cruel stepmother would ever hurt his child again.
