Ryan: Operator? I need emergency police assistance and an ambulance at 404 Maple Drive immediately.
Jessica: Ryan, cancel that call right now! You're ruining our lives!
Ryan: I am reporting child abuse, unlawful confinement, and estate fraud.
Jessica: You're insane! I was trying to save our financial future!
Ryan: You saved nothing. You destroyed your own life today, Jessica.
Jessica backed away slowly toward the front door, her face pale with absolute terror as the loud sound of distant police sirens began echoing down the quiet suburban street.
Jessica: I won't go to prison for this! You can't prove I kept her in there against her will!
Ryan: Her handprints are all over the inside of that ventilation shaft, Jessica. You're done.
Within minutes, police cruisers pulled up to the curb, their red and blue lights flashing bright through the living room windows. Officers rushed through the front door, immediately taking control of the scene while paramedics checked little Sarah's vital signs.
Officer: Ma'am, do not move! Hands behind your back right now!
Jessica: This is a misunderstanding! I'm the owner of this property!
Officer: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court.
Ryan: Make sure she stays far away from my children.
Officer: She won't be coming near your family ever again, sir. We're taking her into custody.
Six months later, the court proceedings were finally finalized. The court-appointed estate trustee surrendered full custody of both twin girls back to Ryan, while Jessica was sentenced to fifteen years in state prison for child endangerment and grand fraud. Standing in the living room of their cozy new apartment, Ryan watched Lily and Sarah sitting together on the rug, drawing pictures with colorful crayons.
Sarah: Dad, look! I drew a picture of our new house with no walls in between us!
Ryan: It's the most beautiful picture I've ever seen, Sarah.
Lily: We get to stay together forever now, right Daddy?
Ryan: Forever and always, girls. Nothing is ever going to separate us again.
