The sun rose over the suburban neighborhood, casting a bright golden light across the manicured green lawns. Birds chirped pleasantly in the tall maple trees surrounding the peaceful public park.
Julian walked along the paved walkway wearing a casual grey t-shirt, his hands tucked loosely in his pockets. He smiled charmingly as he spotted Claire sitting near the fountain.
Julian: See? I told you the morning air would do you some real good.
Claire stood up quickly, clutching her small purse tightly against her side while checking her wristwatch nervously. The clock hands showed seven thirty-five AM already.
Claire: I can only stay for five minutes, Julian. I really need to walk to school.
Julian: Relax, Claire. The school is only ten minutes away from this exact spot.
He stepped closer, taking both of her cold hands into his own warm, reassuring grasp gently. Claire looked up into his gaze, completely hypnotized by his presence and handsome smile.
Claire: I can't believe you asked me to meet like this right before everything starts.
Julian: I wanted to wish you good luck in person. You're going to crush that exam.
Claire: Thank you, Julian. That means a lot to me coming from you.
She smiled, mesmerized by his calm demeanor, feeling the heavy burden of anxiety melt completely away. For the first time in months, she felt genuinely happy and relaxed.
Julian led her over to a wooden bench under a shady oak tree, sitting down right beside her. He began telling a funny story about his morning, making her laugh out loud repeatedly.
Julian: And then the dog ran straight into the lake trying to catch a duck!
Claire: You're terrible! That poor dog must have been freezing cold!
They shared a warm laugh together, lost in the sweetness of the quiet morning moment completely. Claire felt a sudden rush of affection, leaning slightly closer toward his shoulder.
Julian: I really like spending time with you, Claire. You're special.
Claire: I like spending time with you too, Julian. More than I thought I would.
He reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of red hair behind her left ear softly. Her pulse raced as she stared into his eyes, completely forgetting about time and responsibility.
The morning breeze rustled through the leaves above them, creating a soothing background hum in the park. Minutes ticked away silently on her phone screen hidden inside her purse.
Julian: Forget about the stress for just one second. Look at the sky today.
Claire: It really is beautiful out here today...
She closed her eyes briefly, taking a deep breath of the fresh morning air with contentment. Julian kept holding her hand, stroking her fingers gently as they sat close together.
Suddenly, a loud distant chime echoed through the suburban neighborhood, signaling eight o'clock sharp. Claire snapped her eyes open, a sudden shockwave of panic crashing through her entire body.
Claire: What was that clock tower bell just now?!
Julian: Oh, that's just the eight o'clock church bells. No big deal.
Claire pulled her phone out frantically, staring at the digital display in absolute sheer horror now. The screen read 8:05 AM, and her main exam door was already locked shut.
Claire: Eight o'clock?! Oh my god, no! No, no, no!
Julian: Wait, Claire! Don't run off like that!
Claire: The doors close at eight sharp! I'm five minutes late already!
She grabbed her bag and sprinted down the concrete path as fast as her legs could carry her. Tears began forming in her eyes as terror gripped her throat tightly.
