Sarah moved quickly down the bright white hallway, her heart pounding against her ribs. She glanced back and saw Mark following her with quick steps. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her smartphone with a shaky hand. She had sent a panic text to her brother David ten minutes ago. David was a former law enforcement officer who knew how to handle dangerous situations.
Before Mark could reach her, the heavy front door swung open with a loud thud. A tall, muscular man in a black leather jacket stepped inside. David held a heavy leather weapon firmly in his right hand. His eyes scanned the bright hallway, locked directly on Sarah and Mark.
David: Is it done? Did you call me for help?
Sarah: David! Thank God you made it here so fast!
Mark: What is going on here? Why did you force your way inside my house?
David: Back off, Mark! Stand right where you are!
Mark: This is my home! Get out before I call the police on you!
David rushed forward and grabbed Mark firmly by the shoulder, spinning him around against the white wall. Mark struggled, but David’s grip was like iron. Sarah stepped closer, her eyes flashing with pure anger and betrayal. She pointed a finger right at her husband's face.
Sarah: What are you doing in my house? You tried to poison me!
Mark: That is crazy! I would never hurt you, Sarah!
Sarah: I saw the bottle in your hand through the reflection in the cabinet glass!
Mark: You are confused! It was just digitalis medicine for my own heart!
David: Keep quiet, Mark! You are not talking your way out of this today.
Mark tried to pull away from David's heavy grip, but David pushed him harder against the wall. The white paneling creaked under the weight of the two men. Sarah reached into Mark's jacket pocket and pulled out the small glass bottle. It still had tiny drops of clear liquid clinging to the inner glass walls.
Sarah: Now your game is over, Mark. The whole truth comes out today.
Mark: Sarah, please! Think about our family and our reputation!
David: Save it for the judge, buddy. You are done.
Mark gasped as David applied a firm pressure hold to his neck. Within seconds, Mark's eyes rolled back, and his body went completely limp. David eased him down onto the hardwood oak floor. Mark lay unconscious, completely silent in the middle of the bright hallway.
